*** Nintendo Switch ***

I hope this fails massively and Nintendo start to release games for the PS4 (or PS5).

They have no need to make their own console, it's just vanity. Unfortunately a lot of Japanese companies are suffering from inflexible management and are loosing against more dynamic competitors. And this is just another example.

I'm quite sure they'd sell more games on the PS4 platform than they will on their own & make more money. The loss not getting revenue from the small number of 3rd party game sales would be more than made up by the extra sales of their own games IMO. And wipe the large financial risks of releasing hardware.

I'm pretty sure having Nintendo games on the PS4 would increase it's user base by a considerable %, maybe as much as 20-33%?

They can still continue with handheld devices where they still have a strong foothold, with mobile phone the biggest competitors rather than other dedicated handhelds.

But I suspect they may only see the light when it's too late. :/

I'm sure Nintendo just do what they want, just to **** people off :D

You've got to admire them really. I hope it's a huge success, Nintendo see this and create a super home console that rules over Sony/MS. I like their consoles, it's always a breath of fresh air with new ideas coming out. Alright, some of their stuff is well just **** but when they do stuff right they do it well.

Nintendo don't need to release their games on another platform because they have plenty of money to burn and need to spend it for business reasons because of their investors.

Having loads of money and just sitting on it isn't good for business. They have plenty of cash to play with, more than another company in the gaming industry. So why not play with experimental ideas and see? This method has worked for Apple.

If they did become unstuck then yeah they would go multiplatform or join the 4K race.

This thread is a little painful to read at times - Would rather the Nintendo haters who have no interest just stayed out.

In any case after reading through the last few pages I just think the price hurts them too much - lack of being able to be as powerful as PS4 or have more COD games would have mattered little if they had stuck a no brainer price on the product £250 with Zelda and most gamers would have grabbed one without really thinking.

One other annoyance of mine is the storage issues - There is no need whatsoever in this 32gb nonsense especially at the price point - shove a 250gb ssd ((with every NES game pre-loaded) ) in there minimum or at least let us plug one in if its too heavy to carry while going round Tesco or whatever nonsense people have planned.

Sold!! Can't wait!

I'll get Zelda and Bomberman with an extra controller and 128GB SD card. Haven't been this excited about something Nintendo for a while.

The Wii u is great for this, I've had many non gamers come to mine just for some Mario kart.

People moaning about thia being a 2nf Wii u failure, is weird. I bet most haven't owned one. One of the best consoles I've owned. The 1st party line up was awesome. Bring on more. I'm ordering, just for big screen 1st party on the go. I'm happy with a portable Wii u.

You may be happy for a repeat of the Wii U but Nintendo won't be. If it wasn't for stuff like amiibo, Nintendo's from finances wouldn't be in a good place.

Can't wait to get my hand on this! Despite all the negative press and and lack of 3rd party games on the WiiU, the WiiU is my favourite ever Console!

Since the Wii U? :p

Last Nintendo console I was excited about was the N64. What a console that was though! There are aspects of the switch I like and I do love Bomberman for some local multi player but I just can't see it being a success. I'm really on the fence with it as its a fair whack of money for something that might not be supported for very long and having the odd Nintendo release now and again.

I hadn't noticed the game and accessory prices before. Are these placeholder prices? Or are Nintendo taking the ****? A Switch, Breath of the Wild, and a Pro controller comes to £405! That's insane.

I bought it because of their exclusives. Zelda alone for me is worth buying it. Yes I could use the Wii U but I want the best experience.

I just watched the Zelda trailer for the first time. Wow.

Where exactly do you get your information from?

Is there actually anything to back up the Nintendo infinite money line that gets used almost every page?

Nope

Nintendo - $7.9bn cash and cash equivalents + short term investments
http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/ntdoy/financials/balance-sheet

Sony - $17bn cash and cash equivalents + short term investments
http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/sne/financials?query=balance-sheet

Microsoft - $112bn cash and cash equivalents + short term investments
http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/msft/financials?query=balance-sheet

Apple - $67bn cash and cash equivalents + short term investments (a lot of Apples mooted $200bn cash is actually tied up in long term marketable securities)

So as we can see Nintendo doesn't have hordes of cash to keep producing hardware failures and they're not even in the same ballpark as Apple and Microsoft. Admittedly there is more to this picture as Nintendo isn't as leveraged as Sony so its liquidity is significantly better but I'm not sure as a company they can keep producing hardware that doesn't compete. Microsoft on the other hand probably could but like Apple a lot of their cash sits abroad and they don't want to repatriate and pay tax on it.

Really hoping Nintendo have some more game announcements to flesh out the lineup shortly after release. I think they should stick to handhelds personally and bring first party titles out on another console (PS4 or Xbox)

Value is a big deal. For me, the Wii U had few games that I really wanted to play (i.e. not enough to get me to buy the console) and a bunch of games I'd quite like to play, but can't justify £40 on. I always intended to pick one up at some point, but both the console and the games held their value quite well. It never hit a price point I was happy with.

My early feeling is that the Switch will be a similar story. I'd like Zelda, Fire Emblem, Mario Kart and Mario. But not enough to spend £500+ to play them. And I'm intrigued by some of the other games, but again not at £40+ a pop.

Not sure on the price to be honest. Was expecting it to come in somewhere between £180 and £220.

At this point I'm not sure Nintendo understand what value the mass market put on their products

I will no doubt get one for my daughter just for Zelda, she has a Wii and a Wii u and plays the wii u quite a bit so I can't see this not being used.

Since the GameCube.

I've bought all Nintendo consoles except WiiU.

I'm struggling to understand the bad press on the switch, I really am. Maybe it's just a console for Nintendo fans?

You're struggling to understand why a console that is launching with only 5 games, with only one of them being any good and that game also releasing on a console that a potential Switch buyer likely already owns is getting bad press?

Especially when the Switch is also more expensive than both rival consoles?

I'm a huge Nintendo fan despite what some on here would think and have owned pretty much every console they have released and I'm just disappointed by the pricing and game release schedule.

Pricing seems about right to me considering it's not a run-of-the-mill power in a box console. Under £300 is fine. The PS4 was release led at around £350 IIRC.
5 games on release but more will follow swiftly, not an issue for me, don't buy on release if there's not enough games ready for you.
