How much is the nvidia shield?

I only searched on amazon, its £270 for 16G.

I don't know about you, £10 more for a switch with the "free" screen is pretty good?

https://shield.nvidia.co.uk/store/tablet/k1

£170 at nvidia themselves.

I'm not too hung up on the switches price point, I agree nintendo can add value in a number of ways, though for Launch I was hopeful of something around £250 to help get it out there faster.

I think you get quite a bit for your money but the tricky part is the screen/tablet is only worthwhile if you are going to game on the move and that market is going to be nearly impossible to crack with the prevalence and power of current smartphones as well as their own 3DS.

I've ordered mine but with the games line-up, odd messaging, high price (although not bad value) I don't see it selling much. I'd be surprised if Nintendo didn't just focus on games and true handhelds after the Switch.

My plan is to wait until the Scorpio reveal and see what is a better purchase for me.
I have a feeling that since I have an OG Xbox and a gaming PC already I will just end up getting the Switch, especially as this is a new way to play games (portability etc). Fingers crossed for better Switch pricing in July (Summer deals from retailers maybe).

I think the Shield prices around now are a bit inflated because they're no longer in production? (Assuming we're talking about the tablet?)

The one I bought last year was sub £200.

How well has the nvidia shield sold? Ultimately it's not about the price of a product but the perceived value.

For example I'm quite happy to spend £20 eating at a harvester restaurant, I'm also happy to go to a restaurant like the hawksmoor and spend £200 on a meal. However I wouldn't be happy to spend £200 at a harvester. Yet both places are ultimately restaurants serving similar types of food.

All I want is for the switch to become the new Wii u and 3ds. I want one platform for them to focus all releases on. Give me Zelda, Mario, animal crossing, Pokémon, monster hunter, xenoblades, et al.

I hope going forwards Nintendo always only has the one platform and puts everything into it.

Must admit though, as a massive Nintendo fan, the launch line up is really weak. Still pre-ordered though.

Where exactly do you get your information from?

Its been known for years, plenty of gaming Podcasts out there of interviews with people involved in Nintendo's history. Nintendo dont have unlimited amount of money but they do have enough to keep then going to experiment for abit but not forever.

Similar situation with Valve and the public screaming for Half Life 3. Valve knows they can make $$$ from releasing HL3 but they dont need to because they are sitting on enough money from Steam.

The Steam/HL3 thing is different. They're making loads of money from Steam on an ongoing basis rather than them having made a stockpile in the past that's now being whittled down, to the extent that HL3 wouldn't be a massive upside and the potential downside of disappointing super hardcore fans and having them spack out makes it not worth the risk. If they mess it up, or it's perceived to be a disappointment by enough of those people, all the staff involved will get doxed, etc.

I know, my point is Nintendo do what they do because they can. Just because we don't see their on going cash flow doesn't mean anything. Its for the investors to see not the average Joe public like us. They have valuable assets and we all know this. The are not going to simply let them go without a fight.

I love to see Mario on a new high end game console or on the PS4 or Xbox One but it is not going to happen. I am happy for Nintendo do be different. I have 2 game consoles plus PC which came play Fifa, COD etc. I have one which which can play Mario (not including the 3DS or my iPad for Mario Run)

lol. Well as people below mentioned, that is not the correct price, it is worth like half that. Not only that, but as I understand the Switch has weaker hardware inside than that, I hope I am wrong about that though.

I think the Switch together with Zelda for £250 would have been a huge success even with the current line up of launch titles. That was the price I was expecting, but I admit that was probably partly because of the £198 pre-order from that website which got it wrong. Even at £300 for the both would have been okay, but I have had to pay £340 which if I was not someone who really enjoyed Nintendo stuff would not pay.

As someone above mentioned, it is about perceived value, it is different for everyone. No point arguing about it to death, as what you perceive to be value, someone else may not. Hence all the difference of opinion here.

I wonder if DM would have picked one up if it was £200? Probably not :p:D

I feel there will no doubt be some public misconceptions when it comes to comparing the Switch to a standard computing tablet in terms of software features. It's hard to manage expectations when bringing a non-standard product like the Switch to market.

That said, Switch is quite clearly marketed as a games console and I don't think expectations will be as misunderstood by consumers as some people here suggest.

The Wii U GamePad was not a tablet computer even though it had some traits of one. It became widely referred to (somewhat ignorantly) as a 'tablet controller' because the general public didn't really know what else to call it. A big part of this misconception was down to the confusing marketing of the Wii U(and how difficult it was to market in general). The Switch doesn't really have this problem - it's far more clear what the product is.

There is no need whatsoever in this 32gb nonsense especially at the price point - shove a 250gb ssd ((with every NES game pre-loaded) ) in there minimum

Talk about unrealistic expectations :D

The Switch has a MicroSD slot (supporting HC & XC), so just buy a 128GB card if in need of storage space. Even if you go all digital, 128GB should last a long time as Switch games will be significantly smaller than the average big budget PS4/XB1/PC game.

If not going all digital, the built in 32GB will last quite a while even with several eShop games/apps and many VC games installed.

What I would have preferred is...

1 - Delayed the console until the new Pascal chip is shipped and put that in.

2 - Delay until it can be launched with Mario, for a stronger launch line up.

3 - Throw in 1-2 Switch should be a freebie thrown in the box to show off the way you can use the new controllers for £280.

4 - Bundles with Zelda or Mario (choice is yours) for £300. This might still happen.

But we've got what we've got, I have some disappointments but I am over it.

Only really the XB1 has long installation times, you can start playing most PS4 games within a minute from putting the disc in.

Part of my point (albeit not well explained) was because you're not installing games (again, this is a guess) you don't need large amounts of internal storage. And if you store a lot from the store on there, sling an MicroSD card in. Job done :)

179.99 for this...

"Designed explicitly for gaming, the NVIDIA Shield Tablet, features a Full HD 1080p, 8-inch IPS display, and dual-front facing speakers for incredible video and sound, it is powered by a 192 Core Tegra Processor, and supported by 2GB of RAM Memory. 16GB of Storage provides space for your games - Gamers with huge collections can easily increase this by up to 128GB via the MicroSD card slot."

I dunno why you would ignore the tablet version completely?

Because if you put in "Amazon nVidia Shield", top link is the one I mentioned.
