Xbox Scorpio

PS4 Pro wlll be £300 or less when Scorpio comes out and Xbone S itself £150 or so. MS can't have a massive price differential so I'm going with £399 max.

With how crap our currency is and will probably only get worse come march, I can see this being £450+

Going with £499.

At that price it's bordering on a gaming PC at £600 or so. Your average FIFA player won't buy one and the console core might just get a PC. Maybe it's going to knock our socks off and do Forza and Gears at 4K60. I don't know how much it would cost for PC hardware to do that.

Hell I'd buy it (if it had good gaming performance) . I hate the thought of pc gaming and prefer being by the sofa (yes I could get a mini pc but it's not as "neat/effortless" nor got the same life in it as an xbox)

It won't do anything for Xbox 360 games right? They're locked at whatever resolution and frame rate they were coded to at the time?

most games it will do nothing, but like the xbox s its likely that "dynamically scaling" games like Halo 5 will get a boost.

Also developers could patch in improvements, They have done that for the PS4 Pro.

Just not enough info right now, rumours that we wont hear anything before E3 as well. it better be a good show when it does turn up.

I think coming a year later than PS4 Pro will hopefully help Microsoft to tune delivery and patching requirements.

Nearly all of there current first party stuff is already able to run 4K on PC, so its a simple swap over only locking frame rates etc.

I think they'd be mad to charge more than £400, unless it comes with an elite controller for £450 maybe.

I think the same. The core market will probably be people looking to upgrade from a One/S, if they price it too high people won't bother.

I'd expect it to be similar, or marginally higher than a PS4 Pro. Perhaps £399?

So people think it's only going to cost £50 more then ps4 pro?

The original xbox one was £429 on launch, you're dreaming if you think this console will be cheaper. yes it did include kinect but still it's not going to happen.

if people could buy PS4 pro+ UHD Drive model around £449, will fly off the shelf, way cheaper then standalone player

i think xbox Scorpio price will end up being £449.99 or 499.99, PC spec wise will be £600+

This not aimed at core market, xbox one s filling that role being £199

MS should really omit the optical drive out altogether and save a few quid. The audience for Scorpio will probably be more receptive of digital downloads.

I'm not sure dropping the optical drive would be a smart move.

The UHD Blu ray Xbox One S very nearly got my vote (went with a PS4 pro).
The only reasons I went PS4 pro were, UHD blu ray movies cost about £25 each at the moment, Lack of 4k support in games, Lack of exclusivity as I already have a decent PC.

Scorpio with UHD Blu Ray (and 4K games) could pressure the pro in its weak spot, why Sony omitted it I don't know.

doesn't matter how decent your PC is that can't play UHD Blu-rays either.

Indeed, which is why I wouldn't drop the optical drive on the scorpio.

That said, similar to the early regular blu ray discs, prices are currently prohibitive and results do not always exceed up scaling enough to justify the costs imho.

By the way as good as my PC is, it wont play games at 4k reasonably either.
However if I can effectively play any xbox one title on PC the PS4 pro seemed a sensible choice, though a lack of future support for UHD disc made that a close call.

That would be a bad idea and not a good business model. Look at the PSP Go.

Retailers wouldn't stock the console as the profit margins would be small to non existent, especially if Scorpio is £400 plus.

And have you seen how slow it is to download games off the Xbox Store? Steam and Xbox Live don't use the same network architecture. Steam will max our your internet connection. Xbox Live wont and they also cap the download speeds too which doesn't help either. It took about 1hr and 40mins to fully download Gears 4. I am on Virgin Media 200mb BB and my consoles are hard wired. Hate to see how long it take for others on slower connections.

Many people like me still like to pay £37.99 max for a new release. Not £49.99 or £59.99 for digital downloads.

So with the release of the Switch at a slightly pricier point than I expected what do we see this coming in at?
Personally I'm thinking about the worth of buying this with a Gaming PC and OG Xbox One. I guess VR would be the deciding factor here.

I plan on getting a Switch so need to consider my gaming spending budget, will see what I want more after the Scorpio reveal I guess.

Hmm so after a bit of thinking I reckon if the Scorpionis good enough I'll be grabbing that at Christmas and the Switch sometime next year. Give it time for the price to settle and gaming library to build up. My Vita will carry me for 18 months.
