Hey all,

quick spec
CPU 5930K (stock)
1080GTX FE
3440x1440

I'm wanting More GPU Grunt Mainly for Witcher 3 Among others games so im not as close to 50-60fps as i am now.
(W3 has Decent Sli Scaling not perfect)

Currently play Witcher 3 on Ultra apart from Foliage & Hair-works. at 50-80FPS. Would love to max it even if hair-works is on its low setting. so need a good 20-30fps increase

just wanting some advice & your thoughts on what path to take?
1080 SLI?
titan XP
1080TI - not sure if bump will be enough

Whilst it wont add much fps, why are you running your cpu at stock? Just bump the multiplier up and bingo! I did mine with zero changes to voltage or anything.

As for upgrading from a 1080, I can only see the TI being 10-15% better on average and that's a huge outlay for that increase. You really only have SLI as an option but can lead to more issues than benefits at the moment.

I'd just wait until reviews on the TI come out and see what it brings.

Titan Pascal is the only current upgrade for you just now. Do you want to fork out £1100-£1200 for one card though? You'll probably need to watercool it to get th best from it which is another £100+ on top of the card cost.

With the witcher 3 I think you can lower something like shadow detail to medium without it having any noticeable effect on the visuals. Even staring at screenshots you just cannot tell which is which.

Does your monitor not have G-sync?

Seems a massive waste of money spending £1100+ on a Titan X to try and run Witcher 3 on Ultra.

I have Titan X (Maxwell) SLI which it the equivalent to 1070 SLI and even that has frame drops at Ultra. With G-sync I don't notice though.

Hairworks is a killer

Yes I use gsync. Got 3 of them. :)
Hmm not sure why to do.

Cpu wise I want at stock running at 62c atb100% on all cores rather not go higher

Witcher only hits 25% CPU usage

Your 1080 is struggling?
I had Titan black in sli, same resolution as youand the game was at maximum settings and it was nice and smooth. I've just upgraded to a Skylake build with a 1080 which should be slot faster.
I couldn't tell you what FPS I was getting as I've never checked, I always go by how it feels.

so Ultra + AA + hairworks low + no HW AA
Lowest 45fps
Highest 69fps
Average 55fps

so i need a good 20fps-30fps to make it smooth as i like. thoughts?

foliage range kills my fps more than HW tbh lol but on high you can see pop in which is really annoying

I been playing witcher 3 a lot with a i7 3770k @4.2 and 290 @1030/1250 @1440p

Only hair works off and grass distance setting too high I avg around 50 something fps mostly close to 60fps

Watercooled TXP might be an idea. I only just learnt this yesterday, but you can gain like 50% overclock frequency. Though minimum framerates is usually more to do with CPU. A 5930K is surprisingly not as good as the quad-core i7s when it comes to games.

Otherwise, wait for 1080ti, Vega or something else. Or brave SLI. No single card is 4k60 suitable right now.

This. GTX1080 SLI is a waste, from someone who has it. Pain the ass with issues, variable scaling, games not supporting, etc, not to mention the titanic cost.

Keep going with the GTX1080 with a view to jumping ship to the next faster affordable card. The Titan exists for a reason but it is a massive premium for small gains.
