Depressing, yet beautiful movies...

A lead off from another thread!

What are the best examples of bleak, dreary and depressing movies that manage to be painfully beautiful and poignant at the same time?

We've had 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' and 'Requiem For A Dream' so far.

I'd also sight 'Black Swan' as a personal favourite.

Leaving Las Vegas.

Watched it, was moved by it, but found it too depressing to ever watch again.

Always point people to that film after making them watch the new Wicker Man. Such a great juxtapose of what Cage is capable of doing.

Million Dollar Baby,
Les Miserables.

Those are the ones that I have seen. I haven't seen some of the ones listed above.

Oh Gran Tourino and Seven Pounds. Maybe not as depressing as some of the ones listed, but they still made me sad and at the same time happy.
