I can remember this as well. GTV6's are going up as well a few years ago you could pick one up for 2k now they are 6 grand plus. Think the realisation that everything is going turbocharged they are really an end of an era for engines like the Busso V6 so people are snapping them up as they have a real sales potential. Unlike something like a Megane Renaultsport of that era which is just a devolution of Today's models rather than being really different.

That applies to the more recent ones. The older generations, and especially Series I, II, and III are all markedly increasing in value. They're also pretty cheap to work on, but the difference in price between a 'project' one (~£4.5k) and a 'finished' one is quite substantial. They also seem to be coming back into the public's eye since JLR axed the model.
 
Series 1 Elise if you can find a good one for £10k as prices are getting silly again. Otherwise a VX220 is worthy of consideration.
 
VX220 were given a classic status by classic & sports car earlier this month (for what it's worth), prices have been increasing for a few years now but still plenty of room to the top in my opinion.

I paid a little over 2K for my GT-Four in 2012. Now even leggy ones are going for 5k with decent to top end in the 7-10k range. I would definitely put mine in the latter category although I have no plans to sell. At least it makes it easier on the brain knowing how much I have spent on the blasted thing!
 
bizarrely a very large portion of the cars i have owned have all increased in value since i sold them. If i had any idea what i was doing i would have kept a few of them. In fact now the business is picking up i intend to start buying cars that i loved growing up and just keep them forever.

here are my suggestions
Mk IV supra TT - i sold my supra for a 2k profit 3 years ago, they are still climbing i believe
Mercedes 190e 2.3-16 or 2.5-16 - These are shooting up a few years ago you could pick up a cosworth for 3k now clean ones are fetching 12-15. some one looking for a project would be served well restoring a rusty one imo.
Porsche 944 - I blew mine up but these are starting to hold their value well
BMW 840/850ci - again these were around 3-5k a few years ago now they are 5-8
Mercedes 500 SEC- still quite cheap imo also some of the SL's are exporting for good money too
FD RX7 - Hold their value well
e36 - Cheap cars still but they use to be even cheaper. Eventually there will few good ones on the roads and a lot of people looking to relive their old car.
Jaguar XK8 - the older these get the better they look, you could almost mistake one for a db7

How about a Focus RS for £10k?

Looks like I'm even going to make money on my Ford Scorpio Cosworth when I come to sell it in the spring - who'd have thought a Scorpio would increase in value?

As obvious as it sounds, you'd need to choose a car you can see yourself keeping for a good number of years in order for it to be a worthwhile investment.

I've just bought an Impreza although it's not one of the first kind (Classic). It's a bit of a rare model so I'm hoping it holds it's value and increases over time.

I looked at other cars - Skyline, Evo and RS4s (I like this type of car - not a beemer fan or a little coupe fan) I settled on an Impreza as it was always the car I came back to and have had 2 of them in the past. With luck it will prove a good choice.

Are they? are you talking about the mk2s? i suppose they are quite sought after as people want to use the 1uz as a donor.

I had a soarer which i sold for £500 as it wouldnt pass an mot due to a cracked windscreen which had an 8 week+ lead time. I had to get shot as my dad sold his house at the time so i lost the garage space that i was stealing. I regret that one deeply.

Wouldn't be surprised to see vehicles of a certain age start getting banned from city centres, before being banned in total.
 
XK8 is a good shout imo - early ones are very cheap & owing to the type of car you can still find the odd 1-2 owner example in nice condition for not much more than the dogs.
You don't need £10k though.
