Depressing, yet beautiful movies...

Revolutionary Road. I can't remember the exact details, but I remember being simultaneously impressed and depressed.

Life is Beautiful. It's played as a comedy albeit one set against the harsh background of Jewish persecution in Italy during WW2. Wonderfully filmed.

Grave of the Fireflies.

I was going to post that.

I've ended up with 3 versions of it, but haven't even opened the blu-ray yet (despite having it about 3 years).

IIRC one of the reviews summed it up well as one of the "the best movies you'll never want to watch again"

The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Depressing is perhaps not the right word, but I did find it deeply nostalgic and melancholic in a way that made me quite sad. I suppose the ending is a bit depressing. Still, it's one of my favourite films ever.

Bridge to Terabithia caught me off guard a little.

The Road is the definition of depressing but beautiful though.

Not sure if it's exactly depressing, but Interstellar was beautiful and sad at the same time. The "don't let me leave murph" scene had me bawling like a baby.
