Future Classic 10k

Up your budget another 50% and get a Z4M, my BMW Porsche dealer just offered what I paid for mine 3 years ago with 10k more miles on it and no warranty on a trade in for a Boxster S.

Thanks for all the replies, gives me food for thought.

Having drove the defender's on the road there a big no for me, hoping for something that ii can enjoy.

S2000 could be worth a look but they seem to be expensive all ready, remember them been cheaper, would be top end of budget to get low mileage one.

Can't say I am a huge Clio fan but they do have potential

Gtv nice car but the v6 is already expensive i wonder if the smaller engines will follow

Frp seem to be pricey already maybe because they have always been rare

Don't have any love for anything french unless its a 205

A good dc2 seems more than a dc5

Hate the original tt interior don't think I could live with it
Don't know enough about alfas but will look into them

Classic Mini Cooper Sport (or Sport 500 - probably already over budget)

prices on all classic minis have been on the rise for years

I think the S2000 stands a good chance of becoming a decent long term investment.

Finding a good one however already puts them at silly money in my book. The DC2 ITR is a similar story.

bizarrely a very large portion of the cars i have owned have all increased in value since i sold them. If i had any idea what i was doing i would have kept a few of them. In fact now the business is picking up i intend to start buying cars that i loved growing up and just keep them forever.

You must have a good taste ;)

I'm at the opposite end of the scale, saving up for cars that are going up in price! :(

Some of those you listed would be on my shortlist :)

The good ones are already mega money.

I looked at those a few years ago and they have indeed risen since.

Loads of good suggestions but i seem to a few years to late for most. Surprised no one has mentioned the boxster

Boxters are still made and there are too many on the market to make them in any way unusual or in with a chance of rising soon. Because they are still made then you'd always keep looking at the newer version and realising it was better and still available. They also took over the moniker of the poor mans porsche from the 944 (which itself is rising nicely now).

I think you'd have to wait another 25 years for theses to become collectable. Similar deal to the old mini imo

The old rover/austin mini's are going mental in price, a good late model is seemingly £6,000+ now and even a ropey one which needs serious (like welding and panel replacment) are going for over £3,000

Expensive haggard old Mini

Expensive done up one

I got mine maybe 3 years ago from my Grandmother when she stopped driving and it's in similar condition to that first one, at the time i thought if i did it up i could maybe get £3,000 for it but it looks to have probably doubled or a bit more in that time.

The MX-5 Mk1 is already creeping up in value though. Good examples are worth more than an early mk3s already.

If I had some spare cash lying around and a garage to store it, I'd be putting my money on one.

the thing is though good examples can still be had for £1500 and there is no shortage of them. Once mine oxidizes a bit more it will be stripped of all its goodies and replaced with another mk1. If you're buying one as an investment it way too early to be considering parking one up, with what it would cost you in in storage and maintenance, you'll make more leaving that money in the bank. Its going to take more than 5-10 years for them to break the 4-5k mark
