London Pollution

Government do care else we would not have congestion charge, £10 an hour parking, permit holders only parking etc.

That's so the government can make money and please environmentalists at the same time, not for the sake of lowering pollution. If the main aim was to lower pollution, then areas that would cause bigger inconveniences to business' and the public but then they would be weighing up support for the environment with people who are against the inconveniences.

Its like saying the government shows increasing support for the public health by raising tax on cigarettes and alcohol.

The problem is not the average joe driving, its the amazon deliveries etc. more people are getting stuff delivered so more vans in the road

i cycle
The government doesn't set the congestion charge, the parking fees, or introduce permit parking.

Most people commute by bus/train now mate.
London, London, London. There is more to the UK than London. Whilst the thread topic may be about London, air pollution affects more than just London. And nothing the government does would make me think they give a damn about actually tackling air pollution.

We had a heavy frost this morning and the traffic on the A19 was horrendous on my commute home. I thought I would share this with everyone because if this was in London it would have been on the TV news...

i had the misfortune of having to walk app half a mile on the seven sisters road to finsubry park tube station november last year. wouldn't want to do it again, certainly can't see how people do it everyday.

More early deaths from pollution equals less needed to pay for the NHS so the oldies can get their precious pensions.

Simple maths politics.

If you ask me all of this is caused by the governments 20 year+ diesel pushing tactics.

The black cabs and buses are the worst, If you walk past a parked bus you can taste the **** in your throat which tells me more than I need to know than any numerical value does.
Same goes for a black cab.

Indeed, and I've never quite worked out why taxis are allowed in bus lanes when empty either. The sooner the black cab drivers realise they're not a special group the better.

get used to it ladies, the way Trump is going the whole world is going to be a stinking, toxic air filled, carcinogenic mutant creating ****hole

What needs to happen is the transition to hybrid cars, once we get everyone using hybrid cars within the next decade then after that the technology should be even better for full electric cars and then we can transition to full electric cars. Only then will we see a solution to the air pollution we see now.

Unfortunately we're talking 20-30 years for all this to happen. So in the meantime we're just stuck with polluted air in our cities that is causing health problems to millions.

London officially has worse pollution today than Beijing.

FFS.

Terrible smell, terrible metal/acidic taste in mouth, constant sore throat. Diesel should be banned from London. End of story.

Where's are you looking? Aqi shows Beijing has at best 3 times the worst pollution level in london

It's been on the rise for years, increasing energy bills and green energy crap has resulted in many people unblocking their chimneys and burning logs/coal as it's cheaper than electric/central heating.

Interesting, I hadn't read that - have you got a link? We have a chimney but I'd always assumed it would cost a lot more in fuel/sweeping and only heating up one room rather than the whole house.
