Excuse my cultural ignorance, but do any of the Scots on this forum actually do anything for Burns night? It seems to be all about haggis and whisky, but I'm wondering if it's something that is actually celebrated still in Scotland? If so, what do you do?
 
Irn Bru sales went up by 80% in my home town in the run up to this years, now considering the amount of Irn Bru that is drank there anyway that's a massive amount!
 
It's weird, from the Scottish half of my family the die hard nationalists don't bother. The more civilised lot do celebrate it.

At uni, along with St Particks and St Andrews day it was just generally an excuse for people to get hammered no matter what their nationality.
 
We just have Haggis. neeps and tatties, but some people do go to a Burns supper. They hold a couple in my town. Basically they pipe in the Haggis and some old guy normally recites some burns.
 
Been to a couple of burns suppers and normally at least have haggis, never did anything this year though.
 
I had haggis and a glass of whisky for my dinner. It's a nice, warming meal on the cold winter nights.
But Burns poems aren't actually any good..

You mean Burns' poems? They're probably too sophisticated for you to appreciate but thanks for the insightful review.
 
Dad is Scottish though lives in South Yorkshire and until recently we always did something for Burns night, the Whisky I was in favour of but the Haggis....oh my god no as I don't see instant inducement of involuntary vomiting as any kind of celebration.
 
We had a burns night dinner last night, 25 of us, one person was half Scottish. Any excuse to have a few!
