Do you ever test drive a car before you buy ?

Do you know what, I completely forgot that I bought the 330d without driving it first, though it's history was well documented on the forums, and I had driven another 330d to ensure it was what I was after.

Good point though.

Didn't it break fairly soon after purchase? Only history of that car I remember is it expelling shanghais weekly carbon emissions during one in gear acceleration from 30-70....

Every single time, without fail. Definitely with a used car, I'd never even entertain the idea of a used car purchase without driving it first.

It's most unlike you to be so 100% certain about something and yet end up being wrong :p

Always test drive. Now married- she gets to test drive too as it's just as important if something happens.

Old car I test drove un-accompanied. Lastest car I had 3 people in (sales guy and wife). Good thing was I got to sit in the back too. It allows you to observe different things.

Wanted to test the auto and so that seemed good enough, although we're going for the lower sized engine - I've calculated it's still got more power-to-weight than our old car. So I factor in the height and drag .. I'll be happy with that .. more torque getting up hills too :D

Didn't ride either my R6 or KTM as dealers don't let you. cars/trucks yes, always.

Test rode my Ducati and my Fazer Thou with no problems, perhaps you use the wrong stealers?

Always, after all theres more to a car than service history, mechanical condition, age milage etc.

Things like how comfy the seats are, positioning of controls, the general feel of it on the road etc are things i'd like to know before buying.

Good example is when i was looking for my first car, among others there was a pug 206 (which i was kinda meh about anyway due to being a pug but my price range kinda limited options) and jesus the gearbox had been raked, there was so much play in the stick you couldnt tell what gear you were in.

Now that was condition, but what would apply even if it had been brand new was the fact the pedals were so damn close together i couldnt use the brake without standing on my left foot, and there was no position to put the seat in to make it comfy.

As for dealers, ive not had any issues so far, hell the last test drive i had he just handed me the keys and went back to the office.

Being 6'4 fitting into the car is the main reason.. and why I'm not going with the panoramic roof on the new car.

Bought some cheap ones from ebay without driving. No major problems.
I have bought approved used without driving that specific car, but had driven similar.
Buying anything non cheap second hand I have to drive it.

Always drive prior to purchase, my e38 I took on a 100 mile round trip prior to buying it, even my last purchase,a £650 Volvo V70 got a quick run around the block (which sealed it having realised the remap made such an improvement!)

The only cars I've bought without a test drive have been my two 3 series BMW's, both were ex company cars from my father's business which my mum had owned afterwards, no real risk in either.

Do you give the seller the fuel money if you no buy the car ?

As 100miles would be between £25 to £35 worth of fuel..
