Thinking about ditching the PC

Ditched the PC a few times over the years. This time however it was down to my GPU breaking outside of warranty and not having the cash to replace it.

I always find the transition difficult at first. I just don't like using a pad for anything other then side scrollers so that always feels off to me. Aside from that, You'll miss steam. Being a PC gamer is just a cheaper option if we're talking about games specifically.

But there's plenty of reasons to own of the newer consoles now, especially PS4. So many cool games out and some really good ones on the horizon (...zero dawn ;))

Thanks for the input guys.

Pretty sure I'm going to be selling the PC and have a nice little 'gaming room' with a nice big TV and the Xbox One S and PS4 Slim connected too it (maybe a Switch...)

The hard part now is actually selling the PC!

The only game I still play on PC these days is Arma 3. I just love large scale co-op stuff and nothing compares to logging into a 60+ player server and trying to coordinate assaults etc against enemy AI. The chat bar and multiple channels for voice and text comms is still what draws me back to PC games too.

If only console games implemented an in game text based chat system somehow. Would improve communication with randoms no end.

Ditched the PC, well gaming on it quite a few years ago now and just play my PS4. For me, the difference between PC and consoles is so small these days compared to how it used to be. Back in early 2000s etc. PC gaming was just miles ahead and there were experiences you just couldn't get on console. Not so much these days.

I actually built a PC specifically for retro gaming, emulators, big box etc. and looked around for some PC games I could play and there was literally nothing I was interested in. I just use it for work and the occasional blast on arcade games now.

Exactly this! My PC built a few years ago for 4K gaming. I've ended up just using my PC for work now and built a RetroPie arcade machine. I also sold my Xbox-One and game mainly on PS4 Pro now. Once in a blue moon my mate and I will fire up Unreal Tournament for some Instagib action, but that's as far as my PC gaming goes these days. I grew up with PC's but over the last 5 years I've lost the love for it.

I splurged out over £3000 on my new PC to try and ignite the love for it again but it's just gone. Now I have a 1 year old, it's far easier to fire up the PS4 and click a game to play and not have to worry about hackers, ini files, drivers, googling why its broken blah blah.

PC just stopped being fun for me.

I was totally a PC gamer. Even when I purchased a PS3 it was as a Bluray player and the games were just an added bonus I didn't really use.
At the end of last year I took the plunge and purchased a PS4 during the firesale of the C chassis models and I haven't looked back. The only game I continued to play on the PC was SWTOR, but I haven't played that for nearly 3 months now.
I'm only PS4 gaming right now and I've got no real intention of going back to the PC.

I'd fork out for the pro if you're selling your rig and don't already have a PS4.

:D

Also, a 4K tv of the budget allows for that :p

I have a PS4 Slim. I debated the Pro but I had the PC at the time so saw that as my 'high-end' machine plus I didn't have the extra money to spend on it!

I did. With a 980 SLI setup for 12 months, Most the triple AAA releases came out with bugs and crap drivers. Games like Far Cry Primal only achieving 40 FPS maxed out on my rig.

Just because you splurged £3000 on a gaming rig doesn't mean it's a mega gaming rig, dual card has always been a bit dodgy.
Sounds like you were annoyed with the PC, it's your own fault for spending that much, you could have spent half as much and have a good gaming PC, outclassing the console peasants, and knowing it's not that much more than a PS4.

Wonder how many frames Red Dead 2 will have on PC?

Fact is, PC gaming plays second fiddle to game devs. Look at all the whinging that goes on in the PC forum because of lazy ports, poor fps etc. Sorry to break it to the PC only brigade, but devs simply couldn't give a rats rear end about PC. You get the console peasants cast offs.

If you want to play the big games, get a PS4 and an Xbox One. When was the last major PC exclusive? (RTS aside, let's be honest PC dominates the genre).

I spent and built what I needed for work and gaming.

In typical Rockstar style, they'll most likely make PC users wait for a year or so in order to triple dip too. Doesn't matter how much you spend on a rig etc, at the end of the day you're still stuck with crappy drivers you have to wait on along with game updates. Hell I built my 3k i7 5ghz rig in 2011 for BF3 - Couldn't play it thanks to a microstutter bug. It now runs an R9 which can barely pull 60fps @ 1080p and the ReLive drivers I have right now are a buggy mess. The Pro more or less matches that with great stable performance for a dirt cheap price and imo it's a great purchase.

I'm happy I spent £350 on a Pro instead of £450+ on a new GPU.

PS4 gaming is where it's at these days and that's before even mentioning vr. The AAA titles on ps4 I have enjoyed the most , pc gaming is no longer the master power. I only recently crossed over but do not regret one bit.

I don't PC game anymore. Just doesn't feel the same as it used to for me. I went from years of it and much much money spent on motherboards, gpus, cpus, yadayada to a second hand Xbox 360 from cex. That led me to the Xbox one and now the ps4 pro and 4K UHD TV. I've never looked back. I love lying on my bed playing the consoles. And I have to say the ps4 pro and TV have to be the best things I've ever bought. Loving it.

Check out horizon: zero dawn. It looks incredible.

Or uncharted 4. :D

Both look amazing.

While they both look good, to be fair U4 was an average game at best and theres still better looking games on PC if its all about graphics. I would keep the PC and plug it into the TV instead
