I'm looking for a light weight, 13-14" laptop for work/office use, not gaming so don't need lots of GPU power, but need a nice 1080p screen, I'm not fully up to speed but I believe what I'm looking for is IPS panel.
Must have the ability to easily have or be upgraded to a 256gig SSD.
I'm not sure on i3/i5, I will be running Win10, and have heard nowadays for Office/Web use (tiny bit of video editing?) an i3 has loads of power? Battery life is a consideration, I know lots of these sizes have a smaller in built battery, so have to just accept what it is really, but if it can do 5-6 hours of use whilst going through airports typing/browsing/watching films then that's ok.

So far thinking of a traditional choice in a Lenovo Ideapad 510s 14 inch Laptop:
  • Intel Core i3-7100U Processor ( 2.40GHz 2133MHz 3MB )
  • Windows 10 Home 64
  • 14.0"FHD LED AntiGlare 1920x1080
  • 8.0GB PC4-17000 DDR4 2133MHz
  • 128GB SSD SATA III
Or a Xiaomi Air 2, but are they easily bought in the UK?

I slightly prefer the Lenovo for: Ethernet port
Xiaomi: USB C (maybe slightly more future proof?) and I presume for these power adapters/chargers will become more like generic USB phone chargers where anything will charge anything?

Dell Outlet? Don't really know what I'm looking for.
I'm happy buying second hand, but again hard to look out for one thing in-particular.

I have a Dell XPS 13 for work (Kaby Lake)...build quality, screen, ports...everything is outstanding..worth taking a look.

1.5 times the price of the Lenovo though, I didn't state a budget in my post, but something would have to be a lot better than the Lenovo for me to be tempted. I just don't know who else is making laptops like that though (apart from Xioami) I've seen a few from HP/Asus, but hard to find and £££ too.

Something like this might be an option, but they come up rarely: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/dell-xps-13-9350.18768833/#post-30503264

Before I got that XPS 13 from MM I was looking at Asus Zenbook
Take a look at those, they are considerably cheaper

XPS 15, as it's a 15" screen in a 14" body :D

The only reason I didn't get one is that I needed gaming oompf.

A Clevo NU240BU ticks all those boxes sold in the UK under the name ULTRANOTE 14 550 dont think I can link a competitor but a quick google should take you to it. You can spec lots of different options + it has a removable battery.
