Are we over showering/bathing?

I suspect this is the same thing as smokers not realising they stink because they are used to the smell. People who don't shower are so used to their stench they can't smell it.

On the flip side isn't washing less frequently supposed to be good for your immune system?

I shower every day before work then in the evening after working out. I have a water meter :(

Every morning a shower for me, and maybe a relaxing bath in the evenings. I walk 3 miles a day to the station and back, I can't imagine going days without a shower, I'd feel minging.

Your feet must stink...:(

Not at all.

I asked the wife this morning -
Do I smell, have BO?
No
Have I ever had BO?
When you used to do your Marathon training, you used to come in and I'd tell you to shower
So you've never smelled BO on me since then?
No but that's the problem, you smell of nothing
Wut?
Well if Colin or Jules were to stand behind me I would know they are there because they wear aftershave or deodorants but you don't do smells so I wouldn't know you're standing behind me. Most men smell of something but you smell of nothing. The only time you have a smell is when you go the toilet and you spray with the lemon to hide your poo smell so you smell of lemons for a bit :)
So would you like me to smell of lemons?
You're too old now, keep smelling of nothing.

In my childhood during the 70's we would bath once a week and often shared water. Now I shower once a day at a minimum. If I don't then I feel manky.

I shower every day and don't smell, also switched to Mitchum deodorant a few years ago and was the best move I made.

Dimple you know how smokers often don't realise quite how much they smell of smoke (save that people close to them, or other smokers, interpret that as part of their base smell and are thus less bothered by it)?

Yeah... :p

I will not leave the house without washing my hair in the morning. That is one of my few absolutes. If I'm going out in evening I'll even wash it before that.

I never wear a work shirt twice.
Never wear a gym top twice.
Socks, underwear same.

I feel dirty if I don't.
I've sat next to peop who smell in past jobs and its horrible. Saying this I only have this routine because I have to.

Different people different genetics.

Some people sweat more than others. Sweat itself isn't bad but it allows bacteria to grow and then the bacteria is what creates the BO. Fresh sweat doesn't smell but fresh sweat where old sweat hasn't been cleaned smells bad due to the masses of bacteria there and now they are multiplying further.

If you sweat excessively then yes you should shower often but maybe focus on the areas that sweat excessively. No need for instance to wash your hair everyday, etc unless you have a greasy scalp or oily hair, etc.

It's all to do with your own body you should know what is right for you.

Some days I would shower 3 times a day but that would be because of once after the gym, once after football then again before going on a night out. obviously in those instances there is no need for me to clean every single part of the body. I would use soap on the sweaty areas and just rinse the rest.

If your relatively clean then I don't see the fuss in soaking in a bath either. Had you just went paint-balling in a muddy field then I wouldn't suggest bathing afterwards as the water would be extremely dirty however if your relatively clean then sitting / lying in a bath would be fine.

Normally have a shower ever other day, unless I have done something to work up a sweat.

Then have a bath once a week, and me and the misses tend to share the water.

Shots fired!!

I've got your back Feeky, although I think we will have to merge power ranger stylie to best this beast :p
Give it a quick scrub while you're there please. This talk of not washing has got me a bit itchy. There's a good chap :)

I know a woman who didn't wash their hair for a year as an experiment to see what would happen. After a few months it naturally cleaned itself and was very clean, no dirt/grease or nasty smells at all, it was silky smooth. But as soon as it got a soaking in the rain it was back to square one.

The more you wash, the more you need to wash basically. Your body goes on overdrive trying to replace all the oil etc lost after washing. It makes to much and that is what picks up all the dirt and smells.

But yea...once a day for me and that's how it's always been.
