Lane Awareness on Roundabouts?

Is it just me or do people just straddle lanes on roundabouts all the time?!? Just this morning it happened I was in the outside to go left other guy was in the inside to go straight on. Instead of following around the roundabout like he should he cuts and drives straight pushing me over. Luckily I have a relatively narrow car and my exit has a wide entrance so I had room to move over. but it's not the first time someone's been close to "squishing"

The more common occurrence is people never seem to take a wide birth to allow two cars round at once, countless times I've had to honk to make people aware they are squishing me into a roundabout. Once had someone clip my off side wing mirror on a roundabout whilst I could hear my alloy scraping on the roundabout. Idiot didn't stop but luckily there was no damage to the mirror the alloys I couldn't care about tbh.

Anyone else regularly experience this?

Yes, really annoying. It saves people moving their steering wheel, something a lot of drivers don't like to to do!

Look at some parking videos where the car just goes back and forth. Or cars pulling out right prior to turning left so they don't have to turn the wheel so much.

On day people will be put in driverless cars and only progress to driving when they can pass a 'real' driving ability test.
Andi.

Same everyday!

Sometimes I am an idiot and barge aggressive at them in my lane forcing a potential accident with my hand firmly on the horn, something I should not do but sometimes the red mist comes down and I just go all rage mode and then just look at them as if to say why are you using two lanes on a roundabout, stay in lane you absolute RETARD! The only times this is not valid is trucks at which point I fully expect them to use more than one lane and hang way back unless they specifically signal to me to overtake them on roundabout which believe it or not some nicer truck drivers have done as they have clearly seen me holding back. :)

I stick in my lane on roundabouts, even if that means I am in the far left lane, I stick in it, I do not take shortcuts and cut or take some of the other lines.

In short people on roundabouts cutting lanes and not checking mirrors are a nightmare just like the people who sit in the outside lane on dual carriage ways because they are turning right a mile down the road, again I just tend to undertake now, but do so safely and slowly just in case they move over on me. People just seem to not like steering their cars, or deep down most UK drivers are actually American and have no idea of what a roundabout is. ;)

I'd love though for our motorways to be like US ones, where undertaking is typically legal as they stay in lane.

Yeah, happens all the time. Sheep mentality means that there are certain roundabouts where people going straight over will use half of lane 2 so they don't have to deviate from a straight path more often than not.

Turning right in the left hand lane is becoming a more common occurrence as is traffic pulling out when you are turning right in lane 2 and shadowing you around the roundabout on your nearside so you can't move over to take your exit. Come to think about it the latter is probably causing people to do the the former :p

It isn't just roundabouts - I've been observing the tailback near work due to roadworks nearby - very few people have any ability to merge properly or use lanes in general - so many will continue on at barely walking pace when there is a pedestrian obviously waiting to cross and obviously having waited a little while - personally I just let whatever is approaching clear then step out but some people are more timid.

Every now and then on the roundabouts , or just lane discipline in general to some drivers is non existent

One of the slip roads onto dual carriage way near work is a dual lane slip road, yet some people get straight into right lane and then sit at 40mph, so when I blast past them on the inside at 70mph they seem hugely offended flashing their lights. Don't like being undertaken then stop sitting in the bloody fast lane going so slow you numpties or move to the right once at the bottom.

The other bug bear are those who do not get upto speed on slip roads to merge correctly or just stop at the end of the sodding slip road treating it like a junction.

Ah well its just the fun of driving and having to actively drive for others to avoid crashing into the lemmings on the road.

I was on a roundabout as a passenger in my daughter's car. She was traveling round it without any indicator or signal. I asked why she was not indicating and she said "I haven't decided which way I am going yet"

Every day I have to turn right at a roundabout. It's a two lane one on all entrances and exits. Nearly every day the person in the left lane (going straight ahead) drives in a straight line causing me to have to take evasive or break sharply. I now make sure I am never alongside anyone as I pull on to the roundabout.

This is one of the main reasons I have a dashcam now, its too risky people just pulling across the front of you, would rather not risk a 50/50 insurance settlement

I get it everyday too and it's really annoying.

It's sooo tempting to take this approach

Sometimes I am an idiot and barge aggressive at them in my lane forcing a potential accident with my hand firmly on the horn,

But that would be really stupid and pretty much puts you on their level. Just breath, ignore it and get on with your day. Accidents happen with the above attitude. Accidents that are rally easy to avoid with a calm approach.

Remember though roundabouts never used to have lanes, and rule of thumb was to merge onto roundabout, when there is room to do so , and leave space between you and car in front. Not to go up the inside/outside and risk the inevitable. You also used it as outside entering lane was turn left/straight across, and inside lanes for all other exits.

All lanes of roundabouts have done is heard people like sheep to end up in the wrong lane and have to cut people up to correct themselves , I think they are a PITA personally, people have lost all awareness when using them now days. Drives me nuts.

Everyday I get this on the way to and from work, this week it seems to be young females who I assume have only just passed their test, surely you'd learn about lane discipline whilst on your lessons.

Its possible they might never have been round a 2 lane roundabout during their test (not sure if theres a legal requirement to do so).

This is why I avoid going parallel with people on roundabouts. But if I'm driving a banger I just stand my ground and if they hit me, sucks to be them.

Unless it's some highly rural area I'd be surprised at that, I remember on my test they deliberately took you into town and made you go around the bigger roundabouts.
