My dog just bit me on the wrist

Wut? Any animal when stressed will do what the op dog did.. It sounds like only a warning/stress nip, if it was anything dangerous the op would be in hospital.

^ Dogs do this regularly. If they don't like something you are doing/something is distressing to them they will "warning" nip you to say "leave me alone"

On the contrary, dogs are just dogs, they are driven by instinct, not thought or mentality. It's humans who are mental for wanting to own and become emotionally attached to animals, then trying to talk with them, etc.
We've been domesticating animals for tens of thousands of years, for all manner of reasons, companionship included. Get over it.

Careful though op, last time I bought up the pets vs fireworks topic I got flamed for pandering to my pets.
You have a pet panda? Sweet!

Dogs were domesticated tens of thousands of years ago. Human culture and social development evolved with dogs in the family.
If anything but wanting anything is mental and guess against nature.

If it's a nip is not to bad. As said, it's a controlled response. Yeah I can see the association with that one. And not an easy one to crack.

Looks like another classic thread of pet lovers vs non pet lovers

Get over what? The other dude said the dog was mental, I simply explained how humans are actually more mental. Yes humans have been domesticating animals for whatever silly reasons, but that doesnt mean humans aren't mental. 1 in 4 humans will be mental at some point. And thats an old stat, its more like 3/4 nowadays due to inreased media availability and societal pressures.

There was recently a news story where some guy got killed by his dog, and it was only the second time he got bitten! OP should be careful. I hope this dog isn't allowed near innocent children.

Yeah see if you can associate the smell somehow with good behaviour, take his mind off of it.

You can also get calming sprays / plug in sprays also to try out?

Domesticating animals is not "mental", it's very practical. That's nothing to do with mental illness, which you then leap to.

I'm also going to assume that your claim that 3/4 of people are "mental" is based on a study you carried out at the Institute for Madeupology at the University of Your Mum's Basement?

Actually I'm sure if you look into the history of the domestic dog "WE" didn't domesticate them they turned to us for companionship and became domesticated.

Our relationship with dogs may have begun like that, most likely because they found they could obtain food from us. Since then it's become more symbiotic, whereby we feed them in return for them providing some sort of service, mostly hunting or protection historically, but now largely companionship in the modern day.

Err, I i said "talking with aminals" not just domesticating them.

And Its based on what the World Health Organisation said in 2001 here, no need for the BS, my mum doesnt have a basement: http://www.who.int/whr/2001/media_centre/press_release/en/

The 3/4 is extrapolation because the 1/4 figure is now 16 years old lol, and I've admitted that I think its only because of increased media and societal pressures.

I'm sorry, the thing is I actually do have a predisposition here. I used to watch the osbournes sometimes back when I was a kid and the amount of times they **** and **** all over the place lol, and then wipe their arse on your carpet with **** streaming down their legs. Saliva and hair everywhere, eeew. Then they feel a bit peckish and jealous and eat your baby daughter.

Yeah I'm very sorry the problem definitely lies with me, it would take a serious epiphany for me to be able to rationalise having a dog as a pet. Sorry to any dog lovers, you keep on lovin. :)

The council will be able to sort him out. Especially if he is burning things he shouldn't be. That carries a pretty big fine.

Pretty much the only thing your allowed to burn is dead vegetation and only in the countryside. In towns and suburbs it's illegal no matter what.

Dog are only partially driven by instinct(as are humans), they have thoughts, they dream, they learn, they hold grudges, they have preferences. They are close to the intelligence level of a human infant that can't speak yet. It's not mental for humans to seek their companionship because we coevolved in a symbiotic relationship.

Do you have any experience of normal dog ownership? You know, where the worst of it is buying a different hoover attachment to deal with hair?

Unwormed dogs crapping themselves in the house is not normal.

As i said its definitely just me. The worst of it is a new hoover? What about going out for a walk every day knowing you're going to have to handle a fresh steaming pile of ****, and then what if its watery ****?

Too many negatives and zero positives.

Talking to animals is not mental unless you expect them to talk back.

I never disputed the 1/4 figure which, as you say, is reported by the WHO. That figure is well researched, documented, reported, and is reliable. Your 3/4 figure has been pulled out of your bumhole.

For what it's worth, I don't like dogs either, but I'm not about to call dog owners mental and I'm certainly not about to claim trashy reality TV as proof of anything.

Think of the health benefits of going for a walk every day.

In regards to the poo.

Good job for you, your parents didn't think the same about wiping your backside.
