Explosion in St. Petersburg - Please avoid speculation and show some respect

Damn :(
Looks like an explosion in the carridge from the way the doors have blown open.

Let's just hope the numbers don't grow. Don't really care who did it, shouldn't have been done.

Russia wasn't involved in occupying Iraq or the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan.

I'm no fan of Putin's but this looks like an awful attack :( RIP to the victims. At least Russia's response will be a bit more robust than a #PrayForStPetersburg hashtag and a teddy-bear shrine.

What convenient timing, with the west currently posturing on Russia's borders and all.

RIP.

Does Russia have many domestic terror groups?

I vaguely remember the Chechen (sp) school attack but I'm not very knowledgeable any further.

No, but it shows more bombs and boots on the ground do nothing. It's a moot point, doesn't mean a thing to the dead who were likely killed because of it. Hopefully the death toll doesn't rise.

no it doesn't at all. For a start it doesn't matter what happens they will continue attacks, they want to take over the world. secondly it almost certainly does help reduce number of attacks. over the last few years their area of control and wealth has been massively reduced.
Part of the reason they have moved away from centrally organised attacks, and moved towards encouraging individuals to take up arms and do what they can however small.

"If you kill your enemies, they win" right? I disagree.

Wouldn't say do nothing but its a **** slow war of attrition but then there aren't really a lot of other options short of several countries coming together and investing a colossal amount to maintain hard perimeters while they squeeze ISIS out so that they can't just melt away and regroup elsewhere again and again as they do at the moment.

RIP to the undoubtedly innocent people who lost their lives today, and the families who will be affected.

Absolutely terrible.

When something like this happens, there is the immediate sense of tragedy, as well as a underlying feeling of oncoming calamity as politicians with dubious morals around the world make their play and use this event to tout one thing or another, pushing an agenda of which is sometimes unknown to general public. Attacks like this are tragic but i cant help but feel that the plays that politicians will make with something like this will be scarier than ever because of where the attack is.

The two things on peoples minds now i think will:

1.be pity and prayers for those involved
2.What will Putin do

Western intervention has actually been effective in that regard, targeting their cash stores and command centers. Russia's however has shown to be anything but, their bombing campaigns have shown to be indiscriminate those will likely increase and perpetuates the vicious cycle of terror attacks, either due to radicalised sympathisers back home or them joining as an ISIS fighter.
