Am I missing something with these 1080's?

Hi all,

looking at upgrading my AMD 7900 to a GTX 1080. I've narrowed it down to three choices, but have a little question to ask. I'm looking at three substantially reduced in price cards, but the ones that seem to have originally been the most expensive also seem to be the worst?

Current choice (was £499.99):

Other two cards:

(was £599)

(was £639)

The first link seems to be the fastest...and also the lowest original price (also a 5 year warranty over the other cards 2 year warranty).

Am I missing something; or is there a negative to the first card I'm not seeing?

Thanks.

I've seen great prices on the zotac everywhere - even the extreme.

Can't comment on the 1080 but the 1070 variant was very well received - and looks very similar. Only reason i didn't get the 1070 Zotac was because of stock issues when i was ordering. I certainly would have considered it had I been getting a 1080 - after reading reviews etc...

No they are all good deals. Wouldnt take too much notice of the was RRP price its there just to make the lower price look good. It will have been at that price as some point. If It were me I would probably go for the Zotac.

Zotac cards always end up being the cheapest later on in their lifespan.

For those looking to watercool, Zotac aren't a good choice. They don't like you removing the stock cooler to the point if you do, it invalidates the warranty.

If I was buying new I would go EVGA but if you're not looking to watercool there is nothing wrong with any of the cards you've linked.

The AMP extreme Zotac card you've linked has a higher boost clock than the first. Since BIOS editing isn't an option, I would go with whichever has the highest boost clock out of the box.

Edit: I've just noticed the difference in price :o Maybe OCUK have still to discount the AMP extreme model.

Thanks for the heads up. Definitely not interested in water cooling, just good old fashioned air cooling.

If EVGA have fixed the VRM temp issues I would definitely pay a bit extra and go with the Superclocked card.

If not the Zotac card would be great for you. There isn't much in it and the Zotac card does come with a 5 year warranty :)

I'd go with the Zotac amp just remember to register it for the extra 3 years of warranty, I think it needs doing within the first 2 weeks after purchase.

Thanks guys.

Also looking at the Zotac AMP Extreme:

Apparently the 3 fans, over the AMP's 2, makes all the difference. Decisions decisions.
I have the std amp on my 1080 and the im really happy with it at 31db under load it's the quietest card I've ever owned. Even more so than the 3 fan Asus strix.

I just checked the amp extreme and it's 29db under load! That's a noticeable difference! I didn't realise the amp extreme was such a great cooler.
