Xbox Scorpio

The CPU looks promising in that they didn't mention Jaguar, hopefully based on Zen? it kind of bugs me about Microsoft though that they release a new console at the same time as Sony's older console is hitting its stride with awesome exclusives, it's like their consoles never really get going.

Doesn't matter what it is if the games need to work with the original Xbox One.

By the specs (particularly the 40 compute units) I reckon this will be in the region of £400. Especially as the Pro managed to hit £350

They can sell this machine at quite a reasonable price. The GPU has much higher clocks than the one in the Pro and isn't that much bigger, 40 CUs in the Scorpio and 36 CUs in the Pro, the extra TFs come from the clock speeds more or less. This means that the chip will cost roughly the same as the one in the pro. Very clever of MS and good news for us.

Add the extra memory and 4K drive and were looking at maybe £50 more than a Pro.

Agreed

I was thinking around £499 but now leaning towards lower. Not much though.
Yeh I guess, but I still think MSoft would like to come in at around £399, they can afford it.

I'm no PC Gamer anymore..

But how can this outclass a PC?

12GB of shared RAM is certainly not enough to outclass a PC, nor is a 8 core chip at 2.3Ghz with 4MB cache.

It doesn't at all, but some people are too deluded to be reasoned with.

The specs look fantastic for a console though, and if the right games are revealed then I'm in.

The next Grand Theft Auto on this will be orgasmic that chip looks so impressive all that power in a little chip amazing.

Only problem I have is games lately having no long lasting appeal I get bored with games so fast compared to what I used to it all seems a cash cow for DLC.

I guess it's time to hold off on multi platform purchases now until we see what this box does with 3rd parties.

Continued Xb1 compatibility of new titles will nerf the true potential of the Scorpio. They will have to make games that also work on xb1 so all the scorpio version of games will do is add bells and whistles. It wont really push the envelope in terms of what the hardware can really do for risk of marginalising their xb1 customer base and creating a dual market.

Kind of makes all the extra power a little hollow in my opinion. Well unless they make a clear break and have a scorpio only catalogue - which I doubt.

Every motherboard is balanced to each unique Scorpio engine. What the devil does that mean in every day parlance?
