Mods that annoy you

What's all the hate for black wheels and wind deflectors :p next you'll be saying my nodding Darth Vader is rubbish :(:D

  1. Camber so extreme it looks like the suspension has collapsed
  2. Loud exhausts that don't accompany a big engine (1L Corsas shouldn't set off car alarms)
  3. Fluffy pink steering wheel covers
  4. Ridiculously large wheels
  5. Stick-on bonnet scoops / air intakes
  6. YOLO stickers
  7. Body kits (more so the Fast n Furious wannabe than factory ones fitted as standard)

Pretty Evo and MX5 specific but:
  1. De-spoilering Evo's and STI's
  2. Massive wings on road cars
  3. Anything slammed
  4. Crap/Low quality coilovers usually to achieve the above
  5. Stretched tyres
  6. Pretty much the whole "stanced MX5" scene
  7. Awful usually DIY "unique" exhausts, usually with a tiny backbox/tailpipe pointing in a stupid direction
Wind deflectors annoy me. Black wheels annoy me. "

I thought we were in love Howard, but if you can't love my car, how can we be together? :(

I hate:

M/AMG/RS/etc badges which don't belong there
Any body kits with the exception of factory options and subtle splitters etc
Tinted rear lights
Fly-eye headlights
Numberplates with stupid font
Incorrectly coloured headlight bulbs - this annoys me
HID's in reflector type headlights - but this one really ****** me off, and it seems to be quite common where I live now.

Cars which are lowered so that the arch overlaps the tyre
Extreme camber
Excessive tyre stretch
Stickers which reference things which the car doesn't have, or which are tacky and not used ironically
Black wheels except in very specific car/wheel combinations
Halfords rear lights (you know the ones, Lexus lights and the like)
Poorly re-trimmed interiors / leather everything etc.
Chavtastic car audio incl custom plastic speaker enclosures etc
Air ride (though I sort of understand the fun in it)

Saved me writing this list. :p

As Clarkey says, barely any of the scene kids will know the origin of what they're doing.

ps - that Mark X is epic. :D

Am I insane in my views that undercar neons have always been pretty cool to me? Infact I almost fancy putting some under the Z ha.

I know we all instantly think of the boy racers when we talk about modifications but it is the green laners that have been bugging me recently in their mud encased ridiculous wagons belching out smoke.

As for other mods that annoy me, I guess anything "scene" as it shows a lack of originality but I've been guilty of it in the past and still am to some extent.

Oh, and poorly tuned up diesels. Usually of the VAG variety and normally with a SEAT badge, around here at least. Extra annoyance points when they are bright yellow just to highlight the black **** that their exhaust belches out.

Loud exhausts on rubbish cars! bonnet bras! rubbish cars that have been lowered! Basically all the stupid mods teenagers do to their clio's and corsa's!

Used to work with a guy who drove a standard Vectra, he painted his wheels blue, lowered it, stuck a bra on it and a big sticker that said 'Because family car'. The final straw was the rip Paul Walker sticker. I wanted to torch it after I saw that.

There's a stupid Clio who commutes at the same time as me, its been lowered and has a few different panels on, its wheels look like they are about to fall off as they are angled and the tyres stick out. I decided to race him in my 1.4 85bhp Ibiza, I was curious if his car actually had any oomph. I actually won! Its literally a standard 54 reg clio made to look ridiculous!

Tried to narrow it down to one thing that annoys me the most and it's probably bonnet bras, just pointless

Mostly if they're happy with their car and not driving like a moron then happy to leave them to it. Edit badly adjusted headlights annoy me but that's not necessarily mods it can be mods or standard just badly adjusted :p

My pet hate is a car trying to look like something it isn't, for example there's a focus tdci I used to see pretty much every day on the M25 near the A3.. it's got a full Focus ST bodykit on, a proper one, well done and well painted.

And it's sat on tdci suspension with one teeny exhaust not lined up with the kit and obviously the gash interior.

Who are you trying to fool? You've spent a fortune on making your car worse?!

I don't really care about camber/lowering/exhausts and all that, each to their own but when you're trying to make something look like it's not.. why? Anyone who doesn't care won't care and anyone who knows anything about what you're trying to make it look like will spot it a mile away (like me with the ST, I've had 2.. I can spot fakes a mile away, in fact they stick out to me)

Bonnet bras are a weird one... I can perhaps understand them if your intention is to keep your car for a few months and then sell it for minimal loss, but in general they are (supposedly) intended to prevent stone chips on the front of your bonnet, at the cost of making your bonnet look completely ridiculous. Its very strange.

The people who fit them purely as a fashion accessory are even more baffling. :p

People who stick "S" or "M" badges next to the model designation badges on the rear of their A4, 520d etc. I've seen loads of M520d's and 520dM's on the road recently!

Diesel cars that have all the petrol tweaks on them.

There is a 330d on our street that has the full M3 hood, m3 badge, quad exhausts, basically everything that makes it look like an e92 m3. It's not an m3 - he must have spent a lot on the bits and pieces. I don't get it. Seems like a waste of money.

Other than that, other than some mods looking OTT, I don't really care about what people do to their cars. I do care about how people drive more than how they look.

I do think slammed look, looks daft as does extreme camber and extreme tyre stretch - but I can't say I will point and laugh, but I will probably roll my eyes, and purposely not look at the car at all.
