Official RX580,RX570,RX560 and RX550 series review thread

Yes but it is still rubbish. New 290x's were going for just over £200 a couple of years ago.

They were £230 on OcUK IIRC,so that equates to nearly £290 now.

Remember when the RX480 and GTX1060 were released people were going on how the GTX970 was better value, and also how a few years ago you could get an R9 290 4GB for as little as £180 on clearance, and how things had stagnated.

When the R9 390 was released people were saying no point getting that since an R9 290 is under £200 or a cheap R9 290X had more shaders, etc.

We have these same arguments 9/10 a new card is released - plenty of times you find older cards knocked down in price being better value, hence why I said the following:

This is what will happen:
1.)Outrage at the launch
2.)Most people considering an AMD card will buy the RX470/RX480 cards at lower prices since they are cheaper
3.)Older GTX1060 cards will probably also be discounted due to the slightly newer version being released,so people wanting a Nvidia card will get those
4.)Eventually the "new" RX580 and "new" GTX1060 will drop down a bit in RRP once stocks of the old cards are finished
5.)Everything will go back to normal
6.)People will move over to Vega being a fail or Nvidia being a fail or something else

I told my mate who wanted a new card to get a Asus Strix RX470 8GB which was on offer only a few days ago.

Taking advantage of the RX480,RX470 and GTX1060 clearance offers is the best thing to do currently.

Personally I think AMD have done ok with the RX580. It is never going to top the benching charts but that is not the point, it is a good solid mid range card that comes with a nice performance improvement over the RX480.

Companies can not just sell high end products, they do need good solid mid range ones too.
The question that I keep coming back to is why didn't they just release the 2560 version that is going into the Xbox Scorpio? Could have kept the lower clocks, and have the custom 580s give the GTX 1070 a run for its money. We know the 2560 part exists so why not release it?

Maybe 'Because' they need all that silicone they can get for those consoles?

And probably Apple too. Says a lot about AMD's dedication to the customers buying their PC parts - what you are seeing here are leftovers, as in the parts that weren't good enough to go into a freaking console.

More like they didn't want to spend money on a redesign. Nvidia 'seem' to have the sense to already have the design in place, and just disable the features for later use. Makes it a LOT easier to actually then 'make' a faster card later down the line when really, they did basically nothing except enable though parts (or not laser them). AMD at present seem to max out the design on the top level of that card and have nowhere to go.

console chips are manufactured at TSMC 28/16nm

ofc, how do you expect a company barely breaking even, to go all out with new designs, each design cost hundred of millions to see through, if ppl bought from AMD, they would have enough money to make new design every year, but now that ryzen is out, let's hope AMD make some good enough profit to allow them to spend more on R&D.
the results of 2017 Q3 with initial numbers from naples/ryzen and vega, Q4 with APUs should help understand the competitivity AMD might provide going forward.

ehh, The 1080 is fully enabled. The Pascal Titan X original was a much bigger chip and didn't have the yields.
