Just got a court summons for council tax.... £190.00 ! Cheeky buggers have added 40% in fees!

Horrible people who work there collecting the money, seems to be all woman as well! Nasty old woman by the sounds of it.....

I phoned up asking them I wanted to pay in installments and they wouldn't let me!

Not to worry I will have it paid off by the court date anyway so it's all good!

Surely if you'd paid it before this stage, you wouldn't have incurred 40% in fees. Or am I missing something?

Paid ours weeks ago at the council offices. They were all smiles as they took their pound of flesh.

Pay your bills and you won't need to complain about fees being added. Wish my council tax was that low.

Getting a court summons for not paying council tax is most easily avoided by just paying your council tax I find. Works for me quite reliably.

This. If it's gotten to the point of court summons then you've only yourself to blame and need to sort your life out tbh.

if theres one bill always make sure you pay....its this one dude!

Also you can pay by installments... so dno why they said no. If thats what you can afford then thats it! Write to them asking to pay by installments (so you have evidence for the court if they take you to court)

Apart from anything else, don't you get three or four reminders before you get a summons?

He was probably asking to pay his outstanding installment in installments, a £190 (well less the 40% fee than that really) is only going to be one installment as it is, certainly wouldn't be a full year bill :p

Not surprised he was told no to that

Surely this is for missing an installment on last years Council Tax isn't it? This years first installment is only just due.

£190 for how long? A week? I don't even want to know how much it is these days. When I lived in London in the 00s it was well into 4 figures for a ****** student flat :/

Correct, if any of you remember I lost my job last year and found another one 5 months after. But nice too see you all jumping on the band wagon as usual.

I also do pay by direct debit and I also never said anything along the lines of I wasn't going to pay.

He can certainly still pay this debt in installments though. He would still have to keep up to date with the normal CT installments as well.

Could be a month's worth. Tbh the councils must be missing out on a fortune when the tax figure is still based on house prices in 1991 or something.
