Le Vote, France start to elect a new president

Your hyperactive imagination.

Stop posting junk then.

You're guilty of inferring wrongdoing from garbage defended by a vague generalisation. Regrettably that's not a crime either.

Keep watching the skies! Though by default I'm more likely to trust the person not using their immunity to dodge an actual investigation! Top marks for 0H tinfoil though. :D
I was reading about the Le Pen vs Macron event yesterday and he was asked about it then. It does seem like it isn't a real source. That is all the info I could find about it.

Edit: I have found an update on this from Reuters. It looks like a dodgy source http://uk.mobile.reuters.com/article/idUKKBN18014B

Le Pen had a lot of papers on show, but that doesn't make them automatically good sources. Macron clinically took them apart from memory within the constraints of the time alloted. The live Google searchers, audience and independent fact-checkers weren't impressed by FN's sourcing either. It remains along the same lines as Piggate and 70 million Turks; unless you already believe it, it doesn't work. Considering that both Le Pen and Fillon got embroiled in corruption scandals during the campaign, a decent investigative journalist would have got to anything with legs coming out of FN by now, as they've been slinging it for years at the left and the right, from terrorism to 'global elites'.

Did you watch the event? I didn't see it. I think the viewing numbers were down as it was on at the same time as the Monaco-Juventus game.

She's doing a good job of not appealing to either side at the moment!

Yep, with a Twitter feed/Bloomberg/Beeb stream on the side for English commentary.

Most of the debate was spent on fortifying the core voters. The moderators were helpless and unable to control the flow of the event. So Le Pen had gone on the attack from the get go - she had nothing to lose, really.

Unfortunately for her, Macron came prepared for personal attacks as well as had a plan for what he'll do, much of it in his head, which always looks professional (also recall that FN, Le Pens and their rhetoric have been in play for years; Macron hasn't); this proved crucial too, as he appeared to have known the accusations against him better than FN's finest. There were a few funny insults (no French 'debat' goes without them), yes, but then Le Pen had been caught out by the detail and never recovered. Her tactic was to try to personally upset Macron, Gish gallop (look the chap up, seriously, he's hilarious), jump around and string a narrative from whatever soundbites were in the air. Both interrupted when they felt they could score for the home team. Though a few times they were happy to let each other speak on some points where there was less argument and a clear difference. As I said in the EU thread, the result was very clear - Macron made Le Pen (who is, like Nige, not a terrible speaker actually) look like Abbot and Bennett here. Of course, his strategy had a weakness of making him look arrogant not presidential, but it did not backfire. He's up on the presitrack polling average from a previously contracting momentum (59.5/40.5 going in, 61/39 when I last checked).

In any case, MAGAists will defend Le Pen on Twitter, 4chan and here to the death. She gave them what she could. However, with a few days to go, Macron would have to be revealed as Satan and France would need to implode for the contenders' fortunes to flip. Recall that there's no electoral college this time, and even a broadly criticised, establishment politician like Hillary managed to win the popular vote. And indeed Macron v Le Pen is more Obama v Trump than the last contest across the pond. Hence why I suppose mmj is hoping for a miracle in 2022 instead. (Why not Melenchon then, lol, he's more popular among the poor?)

Wow thanks. That's a great summary. Makes you wonder how she even got as far as she did. Looks like Macron has it in the bag now.

I think Obama is generally well received in France. I believe there was a joke petition started not long ago asking Obama to run for president in France and it got quite a lot of signatures.

I dont think it will make a difference obviously and is likely just an excuse to show some association with an American president who is generally quite popular outside the US for... i dont know, credibility as a politician?

To also make it clear, the undecided total was less than the gap. Getting masses of communists, Catholics and undecided voters to stampede for FN at the last minute and a low overall turnout is truly an alignment of planets for the birds. A few lost souls may play naughty at the ballot box, but there is little reason for them to collaborate en masse to bring an offshoot of Vichyism back from the dead. It'd be an insult to the glory and honour France! Le Pens will have to try their millennial alt-right lady next time. :p

President Obama intervenes in French election, backs Macron. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...s-macron-in-last-minute-election-intervention

Can't imagine a US president lecturing French voters on who to vote for in English will go down much better than telling Brits not to vote for UK Independence.

Hopefully it will have the same impact as when he threatened us Brits to vote remain.

Now imagine the uproar about Russian interference if Putin released a video telling the French that he endorses Le Pen and that Macron is an anti-nation state globalist stooge like Obama.

LOL! Did you say that with a straight face?

I'm confused as to why foreign governments (former and current) need to interfere with the national elections of other countries.
