Post your double din installs

I pit a basic Alpine double din in my Alhambra as it had Bluetooth. No pics though, but does the job.

Put a Kenwood single din plus cubby in my Passat as has all the same functionality, plus DAB, and it doesn't look oversized just to fill space like the Alpine does.

When I get home, the Golf is getting a RNS510 in place of the "original" MFD2. I was gonna go for the RNS 315, but this 510 came up at a decent price.

Unless you are going for a really nice double din, then the single din units are better imo. They look better and offer better value for money.

I've got a Pioneer AVIC-F960DAB in my E90. It doesn't look all that great because the climate controls had to be shifted down a bit to get a double DIN head unit in the space but I'm more than happy to live with it for all the additional functionality it's given me. I'm more than happy with the head unit overall but the nav on it is a bit crap, plus the cost for map updates is a joke so if I were buying now, I wouldn't bother with one with navigation.

For me I just wanted something with the basics like Bluetooth and USB, a decent UI (because navigating USB sticks of several hundred tracks is a nightmare on a single DIN unit), DAB and CarPlay and it does a good job of it. I'll get a pic of it later on if the interior isn't looking too manky :D

i have an alpine unit in the bm, not andriod auto but it does the job for what i wanted (satnav and bluetooth mainly), apparently it does dab too although i never use the actual radio so couldnt care less. map updates are free at least!

like phemo had to shift the aircon controls down, and the parking sensor buttons had to be re-routed to the ash tray which is annoying as the stock tray had a lovely colour matched lid which i'd have loved to have kept. maybe some day i'll pull it apart again and check out if i could mod the controls into the existing ash tray with the benefit of getting my second 12v socket back.

really transformed the car, it had the bmw voice activated bluetooth from the factory, but needless to say given how badly voice activation works on a modern smartphone a 2005 system was horrific in its implementation, although i won't say no to having the buttons on the steering wheel at least.

i think there's scope for adding a reversing camera too, so maybe might think about installing one one day and wiring it in (it'll switch when you enter reverse), although my list of expensive things to do is pretty long unlike my bank balance.

I gotten Xtrons double din when i gotten ITR. Been working since then no rpoblems 5 years now :) Could use Android one now tbh

Ofc i got reversing camera ect connected to it

Wish it had DAB and NAV mind. Like the fact that this has a small 'face off' panel, unlike most double din units. A conventional volume knob seems to be dieing out on car stereos too which is bad.

if you want decent audio then look no further than what pioneer or alpine have to offer.

i prefer pioneer myself. also go for their latest model if you can. usually has all the new tech.

I have the cheapest pioneer unit in the LXX Turbo. Its my second unit (had the top range one for the time in my old seat) and would have another even if this one has the worlds worst screen/graphic hardware. Rest of its fine but you get what you pay for. I can post a pic if you really want to see the cheapest unit fitted badly into the worlds most plastic dashboard.

Volume control on he steering wheel?

Its a big install for a MX5 mine being a mk3.5 means the centre console needs to removed to get to the side panels to remove the stock stereo ..Unlike your MX5

I was pretty much set on the JVC KW-M730BT but its not got DAB and NAV just apple car play and Android auto

I'm worried I'll install it then regret not going for the Pioneer AVIC=F80DAB at £699
