Okay so I'm done with amd and RX series I have had 470 fail and on my 2nd 480 which has failed going to go back team green providing I get a refund for this so assuming I do what's best alternative even if it's a used old 9 series as putting money towards isn't an option. I paid £175 for my 480 4gb.

There is a possible opportunity to get a strix 980 Ti at 150 through a friend in thinking that may be best option I game at 2560x1080

Just asking incase there is other cards I can't think of. I know the 1060 compares to a 480 but in that bracket only option is a 3gb which I know isn't just a simple cut of ram taken away

You had 3 failed card? Then is not the graphic cards but the rest of your system.
The chances to having a brand new card failing today by it's own fault is very low to miniscule. To have 3 then the issue is elsewhere. PSU more likely

Nothing to do with my system put a friend's old card in I have no issues what so ever :)

Can't really say it is an AMD issue either though really, never had one of their cards fail on me as I recall. Only one which would not keep its factory oc, but I did not buy that brand new, was on members market, it ran fine on stock settings though.

Just bad luck or some other issue. As if it was an AMD issue they would be out of business with failure rates like that.

It's just unlucky, the 470 was just dropping frames and over heating after few months use of working fine. 480 both failed same manner will pass a benchmark all day long however random black screen when watching YouTube/netflix I thought nothing of it as seemed to go away then it went to corruption and flashing black and green. First 480 failed that way put it in another system which again known to work fine card repeats same fault different card in and issue goes away. Got it back "fixed" fine for week and started again. Just poor luck.

Could be just bad luck lay off the system ! :) Its not unheard of getting 2/3 cards that fail and dont play ball. Could be a dodgy batch going round. Has happened in the past with the AMD 7800 cards, also 780ti cards too and they were - both Gigabyte, hey what make is the RX480 G1 ? ;)

In my experience Gigabyte every now and again bring out a bad batch of 1000 or so GPU's could be a sign of this. What make was the 470 ?

Unlucky Mark, I also think there have been some bad batches of RX series GPUs around, hell I've experienced a few faulty, but they were 2nd hand not new (and yes it was definately the cards as stable now, and was stable with the previous 7950 and R9 290).

I'd be grabbing the 980TI if I was you; there's nothing that speed new in that region at the moment, as long as you know the card is error free and working. If the card is coming through a friend you may also have warranty opportunity as well, should you need it *touch wood*

The 470 was an Asus and the 480 both gigabyte, as I say it's not my system, the 980 does have 2 and abit years warranty remaining I know that much

I know plenty of people who have various RX470 and RX480 cards, including the Asus RX470 Strix 4GB/8GB and they have not had failures, and this is with a range of different setups. To put it in context amongst say a dozen people I know(including me) who have gaming rigs in the last 5 years only three cards have had issues in all that time, and one was because they caused the damage themselves. Having three failures amongst two different brands in the same rig is not normal.

Why some of us are worried,is because it could be your PSU having issues, and the GTX980TI draws more power than a RX470 or RX480. Would a GTX980TI at £150 be worth it,OFC, and it will utterly destroy an RX480/GTX1060 in many games, and your mate is being very nice giving you such a decent card for £150,but if I were you I might consider changing out the PSU.

In fact one of the failures I talked about happened since the PSU was starting to slowly die, even though it was a reasonable unit.

Oh I'm not saying you don't I'm partly sour as excluding mine I know of 8 other people who have had failures granted they were all the Asus dual and we all know they did have issues

The problem is you the had two Gigabyte RX480 cards die too - so three cards in the same system?

A reference GTX980TI at peak gaming power under Metro:Last Light consumes 70W more over the PCI-E connectors when compared to a reference RX480 and nearly 115W more than a reference RX470!! I had a look at the Strix GTX980TI and it adds another 20W to 30W over the reference GTX980TI due to the overclock.

At £150,that GTX980TI is brilliant offer, even of you had a functioning card already and I would most definitely get it especially if your mate is willing to cover the paperwork of the warranty for you,but try and get the PSU checked out at least with a voltmeter, etc under load to see if it isn't going a bit wonky.

My psu is a 600W XFX XT, the 480 will work in games so last night I played overwatch no issues it only falls on it's ass with video e.g. YouTube,Netflix 4k or non 4k, twitch. Games give me no issues, I only had 1 game error when cs go bombed out with video tdr error. ( only played overwatch and abit of mass effect andromeda neither that taxing)

Part of the reason I also feel rest of system is fine is due to nature of my work I see many pc parts and see many graphics cards Nvidia and and amd the fault I've had has been more common than I expected it to be.

I'll get the psu checked as tbf I didn't consider it due to oddness of faults I have

Cards which can't hold their factory OC after a while seems to be pretty common, had 3 Geforce cards like that in a row myself :/
