Car shopping weekend with the Mrs....

How are Mini's so quick? i don't see how they are so nippy off the line and achieve such impressive 0-60 times when they are not any lighter than your average hatchback.
Has the 1.5 cooper got a turbo? Many models "apart from the Cooper S" don't seem to have very high bhp or torque but they are quicker than what they appear on paper.

1.5 3 cyl turbo

They are nippy we were looking at cooper S but then realised a normal cooper is quick enough for her

7.9 secs to 60 is very good from a 1.5 3cyl With 140bhp and as you say plenty quick enough!
I've been noticing far more young male drivers of the Cooper and Cooper S or SD lately being driven in a very spirited Manner that's what made me notice how quick off the mark they are. Seems they are no longer a car mainly driven by women

Looks are subjective. It's fundamentally an excellent car.

The new one is no doubt a good car but the looks have gone backwards. The rear lights are way too oversized. The bottom half of the front and rear bumpers look like a stuck on after thought and it's just too big and bloated, hence the comment. And don't get me started on the 5 door.

Can't believe I'd see the day the diesel version in exactly same spec is £1000 cheaper !!

Even on F30 forums loads of people ditching diesels I dont know why

Any other version then the 3 door hatch is absolutely vile

Did you make a decision? What did you think of the Leon?

We left a deposit on this mini http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201702082108282

I hope it's ok as it's the only well speced one in budget. If it's not mint she might have to pcp a new one

She drove one at local mini dealer first and loved it she's not driven a petrol Leon yet but she has drove a 2.0tdi fr one and liked it, personally I don't like Leon's i don't like seating position or the seats themselves , always preferred the Bmw driving position

cooper s is like what 190BHP and can hit over 200 with simple mods or even a pulley adjustment. JCW is 220+ BHP in a car which weighs nothing.

your average car has what 100-120 BHP and is usually heavier too. the mini has practically no boot and cramped back. your average car usually has a decent sized boot in comparison.

cooper SD again has what 170 BHP which again in a car so small makes if pretty fast.

the normal cooper engines are also pretty fast enough for your normal driver with around 110-120 bhp for such a small car is good going. remember a tdi golf usually has around 120 bhp and is a much heavier car.

I see his point though, the regular Cooper really punches above it's weight and offers more performance than you'd expect or even ask for in a car like that.

If anything I think it makes the Cooper S seem slow - it's supposed to be a hot hatch but it isn't much quicker than the Cooper. I was very underwhelmed by the Cooper S but very surprised by the regular Cooper.

She did originally want a cooper s 'cos its the fast one' but when we drove the normal cooper it was plenty fast enough. Quite supprised she liked it she's been 'driving' my 335d for a month

Is that bolster wear on the drivers side? If it is, seems like a reasonable amount for such a low-ish mileage car to me.
