*** Nintendo Switch ***

Oh I've been hammering sites like Amazon.jp and PlayAsia to see where I can pre-order the limited edition bundle from (not shown in images, the Switch handheld has a cool design on the back). And it reminds me that I for sure want a limited edition colour/design on my Switch. So I hope it releases over here or that at least we get something for Pokemon. It turns out that even a Japanese Switch, can be set to English language and use Western eShop. Even though the game has not been announced yet for this part of the world, region-free means either physical import or digital will do.

I will for sure buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe alongside it (despite not having finished MK8 on WiiU), though I will be one of few folks who won't get Zelda on Switch, only because I've already completed the WiiU version with 180+ hours. I will plan on getting a custom dock (regular dock has no cooling/advantage), 128GB minimum microSD and... (sigh) the overpriced pro-controller. A shame that the pro-controller doesn't seem to be bundled in. Both MH3 on Wii and MH3U on WiiU had bundles with the pro controller, the former had a limited edition version of the game that one could get it with.

Any other tips for someone who plans on getting a Switch soon? I've seen that many places don't have the regular Switch available here in the UK. So by August, hopefully stocks will be better and fingers crossed we might already have it announced for the West. If Xenoblade, Mario Odyssey and maybe Pokemon also release this year... then I'm happy to be proven wrong about "Switch has no games the first year". I just hope they fix the damn JoyConn issues before I end up getting a Switch.

It's looking more and more like poor wireless reception with the Switch in general rather than poor joycons. The WiFi strength also never get a maximum signal with the Switch, and when connecting the joycons to other devices they work perfectly.

Have to agree the Wifi is atrocious in my house, this coming after I spent £150 on an Asus router which is fine for any other device. I've had to resort to the USB-LAN adapter.

It also seems linked to poor Bluetooth (joycon) signal strength too.

It looks like a design flaw rather than a limited batch problem.

Hmm I wonder if all these issues be resolved any time soon. Don't want to buy until they are.

Same. I'm surprised that the Switch still doesn't have an ethernet port in the year 2017, despite Nintendo being adamant that its home console first and all that. Wifi problems has me worried about games like Splatoon 2 which rely on online. I guess it validates the excuse that Bungie didn't want to put Destiny 2 on Switch due to online connectivity. Does the Switch have a USB ethernet adaptor accessory? That could solve connection issues in a home environment. In the worst case scenario, my wi-fi router is on the same table as the Switch would be on anyway (only space I have left to put it).

I would hope they fix these issues promptly, or it might negatively impact sales.

My understanding of the Destiny 2 bit was more due to the fact where its portable it can be taken anywhere, so for online only games it just doesn't work. Rather than whether or not the Switch has bad wifi capabilities :p

Maybe already suggested but did you turn off motion steering?
thanks but yes I did (as soon as I bought MK8)......I suppose an update could have re-enabled it but imo it was way too severe to allow for this

Those who are having problems with contacting Nintendo regarding the joycon... if by email don't bother. I got no response.

Called them, the guy I spoke to was very helpful. Email received immediately after the call with return details. Sent last Wednesday, I'll keep you updated...

Again thank you - the email from Nintendo was actually a result of a phone call which is why its so frustrating (and they even admitted it may take over a month for a replaceent to be sent once its recieved - yet they have 1000's, or more likely 100's of thousands, of joycons on sale seperately....hmmmm you wonder how serious they are about CS)

Oh btw for USB-Lan adapters, any work apparently. Spawn Wave did a good video review testing out 3 different ones inc the Nintendo one but 3rd party works just fine. Much faster download/update speeds too.

To be fair, the Gamecube, Wii and Wii U didn't either but all could be done via official or 3rd addon. Same for the Switch too but really no point unless your playing in docked mode all the time.

Most generic 5 quid USB Ethernet adapters work.

Ethernet port would be perfect for when playing in docked mode. Only issue is that I only have 4 ethernet slots on my router and all of them are used up (plus an extra cable which requires me to swap one out whenever I want to use that machine). First world problems...

Oh and Monster Hunter is already available for import pre-order from playasia btw. My recommendation is to pre-order it and then if the game gets announced for the West, you can always cancel it before it launches in August. There was a limited collector's edition, but it's already sold out apparently. Makes sense given how much Japan loves that game series.

Yeah there is the argument that peeps wont want or care for the ethernet, so they don't include the port. Seems a shame though, and it isnt a cheap unit.

Switch clearly has reception problems. I can be in the garage with the router (homehub 6 which is pretty damn good for wifi) and only get 2 bars.

I only had a chance to play 2 of the ARMS test sessions, but dang was it fun!

It's especially great when playing against someone who is decent and you are both dancing around each others attacks trying to find an opening. The movement is great (why most of the character abilities are designed around movement/jumping).

I'm already sold (as you may have guessed :p), but will be playing as much of the beta this upcoming weekend as I can.
