Is it now time that our police are all armed?

No we don't need to turn this into a gun country

Or perhaps we do.

National service for males we would deter male nobjockys from coming to this country.

If those males can choose to keep the gun you trained with (converted from fully automatic to semi-) you can defend your country.

If we had gun carry you can shoot terrorists.

You would think that gun ownership would increases gun crime but it is not clear cut; Switzerland has national service, you get the offer of keeping your rifle but the country has low gun crime http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21379912

I think it should be up to the police themselves if they want to be routinely armed. I am not opposed to the idea but neither do I see it as completely necessary.
No, and by all accounts they don't want to be either

I quoted this in the London Bridge thread but it would have been easy to miss, the recent survey by the Metropolitan Police Federation showed that while around three quarters of respondents were in favour of all Met Officers having tasers only around a quarter felt that all officers should be routinely armed (presumably with a sidearm).

Probably the most ridiculous post I've read in a while, as people have said if you arm the population then the criminals arm themselves better.

There is no way I'd want all the police armed either, I know a few policemen and not one of them wants to be armed as they believe it'll create an arms race.

Also the more guns on the streets means it's easier for criminals (and terrorists) to get access to them, I think it's a sign that something is working with our gun laws that the last 2 London attacks were carried out with people armed with knives, imagine the death toll if the 3 in Borough had firearms, be a lot more than 7 I'll bet.

Assuming we had civilian firearm ownership there is little reason for civilians to own a firearm in anything other than bolt action/straight pull configuration.

Do officers still get automatically suspended pending investigation after firing a gun?

I'm going against the tide here and saying that all new recruits should be armed. The training and recruitment process could take this into account. I don't suggest all current officers should be armed as many don't want to be. However they should be given the option if they choose to. Obviously they would need to undergo a selection criteria to carry.

I've been against them carrying firearms for years but I think the world has moved on to a worse place. Like I said in the London attack thread we need to understand that we are at war and become a lot tougher.

UK criminals are already armed if they choose to be:

Guns are imported to the UK, deactivated guns are reactivated and antiques and the theft of shotguns arms the criminal fraternity. Shotguns are a favourite in Liverpool.

Well done for not reading what you actually quoted me saying, I said you arm the police and the criminals will arm themselves better which you have proven to be correct, currently police carry tasers and batons so criminals carry shotguns, arm police with MP5s etc. and what will the criminals then arm themselves with?

Correct, you're a much richer nation, with more than enough resources to properly arm your police and ensure they are not vulnerable to attack.

What i am trying to say is Australia is rather mild compared to the UK.We have young kids that are not even scared of the police and stabbings going on daily. Now add guns into the mix and we will be having drive by shootings daily instead.
