No otherwise it turns into cops and robbers, much prefer specialised units trained for rapid armed response.
No we don't need to turn this into a gun country
I think it should be up to the police themselves if they want to be routinely armed. I am not opposed to the idea but neither do I see it as completely necessary.
No, and by all accounts they don't want to be either
Or perhaps we do.
National service for males we would deter male nobjockys from coming to this country.
If those males can choose to keep the gun you trained with (converted from fully automatic to semi-) you can defend your country.
If we had gun carry you can shoot terrorists.
You would think that gun ownership would increases gun crime but it is not clear cut; Switzerland has national service, you get the offer of keeping your rifle but the country has low gun crime http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21379912

Australian police are armed, and we manage to find the money for it quite easily.
I see you've never been to Australia, where the scenarios you're describing don't actually occur.
Probably the most ridiculous post I've read in a while, as people have said if you arm the population then the criminals arm themselves better.
We are not in Australia.
No, never. Innocent people will be getting shot all over the place.
UK criminals are already armed if they choose to be:

Guns are imported to the UK, deactivated guns are reactivated and antiques and the theft of shotguns arms the criminal fraternity. Shotguns are a favourite in Liverpool.
Correct, you're a much richer nation, with more than enough resources to properly arm your police and ensure they are not vulnerable to attack.
Why would innocent people get shot all over the place? This doesn't happen in Australia; why would it happen in the UK?
Yes, because every single person has the mental capacity to be trained in armed combat and shoot someone on sightIf we had gun carry you can shoot terrorists.
