Best Sci Fi Movies.

Jokester won the thread way back!
To add to the thing and twelve monkey's.

Cube, pi, star trek the motion picture, existensez, dune.

Personally I find all of those Philip k dick films (including blade runner) a massive disappointment.

Star Wars original trilogy and rogue one. As still to this day I meet people who haven't seen Star Wars
As said Ex Machina and the 1st matrix but not the rest

On Invasion of the Body Snatchers (both 56/78 are great anything else claiming to be, isn't)
The whole era of 50s American Sci Fi is very watchable on a number of levels.

Originals like
the fly and the thing from another world are great
Forbidden Planet
Invaders from Mars

And some later UK Sci fi too

Quatermass and the Pitt
Village of the Damned

Back to the Future, albeit this is obviously light hearted too.

Silent Running (1972).

Rollerball (1975).

Invasion of the body snatchers (both versions) is truly fantastic.

The last Starfighter.
The day the earth stood still.
The black hole.
Tron

Nice to see Quatermass and the pit get a mention, all time favourite.

Star Wars is fantasy though, not sci-fi.

First cube film, children of men, westworld

Great thread, cool to see silent running get a mention too.
Body snatchers are timeless and quatermass and the pit is so classic British sci fi everyone should see it.

We haven't mentioned gattaca, small, detailed and awesome.

Gattaca has been mentioned; but yes, it's a great film. It's a shame it made a measly $12m or so. Maybe not enough stupid nonsense going on for the average cinema goer who prefers the repetitive garbage we get year after year.

Pity Niccol's more recent 'In Time', wasn't executed anywhere near as well as Gattaca. Great premise, but falls short.
