You don't have to shift through a constant stream of **** to put it simply

No point reading peoples posts like d.p., floppers, lambchops, doom etc. their posts offer absolutely nothing to this forum/thread.

I think using an ignore list is silly, One day you may post for help with a problem and get given the answer you need but, you'll never see it. It's much safer to simply not read posts from those you consider trolls.

In that case, you create a new thread and when you scroll to the bottom, click on show ignored content.

Also, from what I've seen, d.p., flopper, doom etc. don't post in many other sub forums/threads or/and don't post anything in sub forums that I visit so no real loss either way.

If you've followed nvidia pr since the original titan's release you'd know nvidia don't specifically advertise them as gaming cards, that being said they still stick geforce gtx on top of the card in led's so doesn't really matter what they say.

It's absolutely been all about gaming since the original album Titan's release, the only one they tried to change their tune with is the Titan Xp, but they still covered it in GTX branding, and it runs gaming drivers.

Yes i know that. But that's the spec... They don't list what the card is capable of pulling only the spec. If a card has 1x6pin they will list it as a 150watt card it could well be capable of pulling more im not disputing that..

It's absolutely been all about gaming since the original album Titan's release, the only one they tried to change their tune with is the Titan Xp, but they still covered it in GTX branding, and it runs gaming drivers.

They only did it to try and some how justify the price. People was astounded by the price which is why it was said these cards are not actually aimed at gamers even though its part of their gaming products.

Frontier isnt Titan if they make a point of saying it performs worse, my impression was it will always be worse in use. Isnt it more like Quadro? Only the greater ram could be superior in games maybe, saying that its titan level some gamers will actually buy it and make a mistake.

The max power spec also seems be a deliberate mistake, more of a waiver to any system builders

I'm green and have been since 2012. What I do need more desperately than a new GPU is a new monitor.

But then the choice of monitor is based on GPU (FreeSync vs Gsync) so it boils down to three choices.

1. Wait for Vega to launch and buy a Vega. Even tho I am Green.
2. Wait for Vega to launch and by a 1000 series card.
3. Third is buy a second hand 1080 and at least then have a Gsync monitor if Volta turns out to be epic.

Wildcard option. Stick with 970, buy a Gsync monitor and upgrade to Volta when it launches.

if you are looking for 1070 or 1080Ti braket, i would say go ahead the green way, but if you are aiming at the 1080 segment i would say wait, because that's where Vega should hit hard with a significant per/$ improvement.
that's where things seem to be moving to anyway.

Also we can't forget Apple is putting these GPUs into their iMacs. They ignored Hawaii and Fiji due to their power and heat; Vega wouldn't fit in an AIO iMac if it was 375W for the TDP at 13 TFLOPS.

Apple never before had a system using so much power as the imac pro. 500W PSU should lead to 175-200W GPU TDP.

Apple is putting in a 11 TFLOP base level Vega card, with option for full 64 CU 16GB card as well.
That plus an 18 Core Xeon, and 32-128GB RAM crammed into a monitor back would melt at 375W TDP for GPU alone; nevermind a Skylake Xeon and the rest.

The 64 CU part is the 11 Tflop part. Apple is promoting the the imac with the fastest part. The 56 Cu part will be slower. So it'll be aroung 1350 mhz for 175-200W. 250 mhz lower than FE are quite a bit and can lead to much lower consumption. Apple is using Nano-like gpus.

Performance of Vega has been demonstrated by AMD at CES and Computex. Prices have also been announced for the FE model. Power and TDP there's nothing official although the marketing director from MSI has said it requires 'a lot of power' and the card has 2x 8 pin power inputs which points to a high power draws.

If it's /only/ at that level, then AMD will have failed dramatically - may as well have named Vega as Bulldozer 2.0.

I replaced my old 290 with a 1080 because my HTPC is connected to my normal 1080p TV. So I hope Vega will be good because I have a Freesync monitor which needs to be put to use.

If it is up to 1080 ti performance then the focus will be on the power draw (if its what has been alleged), because any one metric that one card isn't upto snuff in is usually whats zero'd in on for pages and pages of back and forth boring bs.

You forget about minimum frame rates too. If something is 30% faster on average but with 1% lower minimums it's junk.

Totally with you. I just sold my Fury X (because it's worth money at the minute) so I've "borrowed" a 1070 from my mining rig... which has left my mining rig one GPU short until Vega comes out =( But if Vega is trash I'm probably gonna just get a Ti - and I'd rather not. Either way, I need it to hurry up so I can free up this 1070

The 2010 Mac Pros packed a 1000W PSU. They had dual Xeon sockets - up to 12C/24T - and eight RAM slots.

I think if prices had settled down somewhat, I would have bought a 1000 series card already.

But with the mining craze, they seem to have gone up!

You have to go a long way to beat the 4GB card that only has 3.5 GB on board and .5 GB of patented "tank your performance" memory.
