Are gay folks getting too much attention?

I was thinking about this yesterday. Everything is gay that and LGBT this or feminist that, heck they now shoved political correctness into Dr Who and Star Wars (Where were all the white males in the last two movies?...oh yes the bad guys ) It just seems to be constantly everywhere and to be honest i'm a little fed up of it all. I just want to live life and enjoy entertainment without everything becoming a political statement about how wonderful it is to be a female, minority or gay :/

The Force Awakens did have Han Solo in it!

But then it is possible Poe is gay and Finn swings both ways so you might not want to watch The Last Jedi...

I don't get why being gay should be a problem for anyone in 2017. Homophobia is one of the more disgusting bigotries that certain people have. I don't give a crap about any ones sex life, it's their business not mine. Sounds like the OP is a closet homophobe.

I think you've entirely missed the point. He is not complaining about homosexuality, but the patronising attitude of the media, corporations etc.

Well if that is true he should have been more clear in his opening post.

This show however, "gay and proud of it" or something almost seems condescending, patronizing towards homosexuality, like it's an affliction or something. It was in the same line as those TV shows that document people with Downs Syndrome, quite pathetic really.

Are the TV stations going too far with this? Why do they have to single people out like this, as if they need special attention?

I know if I was a gay man I'd be seriously miffed.

how much cleaerer could he say it than word for word?

I'm sorry, I'll use smaller words next time.

Some good points raised here. For one I forgot it's Pride week and obviously the bottom feeders will want to cash in on that.

Being facetious for a moment, I'm reminded of the term from Viz's Profanisaurus:

Promosexual
One who is unnecessarily forward in promoting the fact that they are gay. Characterised by an unwelcome excess of exaggeratedly camp behaviour. One who is forever going on about the fact they are gay.
(edited to make SFW)

I do sometimes feel that there is an over-emphasis on gay issues and gay culture in the media, perhaps because of the higher-than-average percentage demographic of homosexuals in the media and creative and arts industries in general?

Is there though? Or is it just cognitive bias?

There is a good chance that maybe peak viewing times for homosexuals happens to be the same peak time that you view, and therefore things seems disproportionately 'gay', but I can guarantee that if you look at all tv scheduling across all channels throughout an entire week, homosexual content will make up a tiny percentage.

I personally think that the people who complain about the amount of gays on TV unknowingly look for them or notice them more.

Let's be honest here.... If we count the number of hetro relationships on showing on TV at this very moment... What will the Percentage be?

Because it doesn't affect you? We have to keep doing it, making a big deal out of it, until everyone realises that gay people exist, should have equal rights, and should be treated equally. We aren't yet at that stage, and your ****** quote highlights that.

Surely singling out a minority and then saying it is their "month" (which it isn't as Pride starts in August in Brighton) is reinforcing the divide between them and others? Would it not be best to just not make a huge fuss about it and carry on as normal? There isn't a special day for people with slightly mousy hair or one for those with brown eyes. I don't believe celebrating differences is beneficial for anyone.
