My goodness, if the the talk from Videocardz is correct about a critical flaw in a Vega stepping, and them re manufacturing it all for Radeon RX; then selling off the defects as Frontier Edition for semi workstation.... My goodness that means something should really be fired for such a mistake.

Yep if you are in the kind of debt AMD are atm these kind of mistakes should get you a p45 as there is no room for error.

Well i haven't seen AMDmatt around for a while and he was being more hands on for AMD. might be that (p45 ----> AMDmatt):D

Judging from what we've seen thus far it seem Vega is either a horrible flop with drastically reduced IPC over Fiji, or there's something else going on.

It's hard to imagine Vega is barely above 1070 aka a 980Ti, with a nearly 30%-55% clock speed boost over a Fury X. A die shrunk Fiji from 28nm to 14nm should be faster.

In fact an Normal overclocked Fury X is beating the Frontier Edition in 3D Mark. Something is really going on here.

This is the issue with not sampling well known and respected reviewers with the cards. Now we're getting average joes get ting their hands on it putting out numbers.

I doubt that Fury result on the right is correct. 23% better graphics score with a 7 % core overclock? Na.

Oh dear, time to sell up the gaming pc then as AMD are doooooooooooooooooomed.

Enjoy paying £400+ for the mid range gpus that offer 10% better performance compared to the current mid range gpus next year folks :D

amd don't earn any extra from price gouging, only the retailers.

it also hurts amds mindshare in the gaming industry, less gpus means less gamers are using amd gpus, means when devs look at % of Nvidia to amd gpus the scale looks even bigger in Nvidias favour, less optimisation for amd, worse performance on their cards in turn.

also, hurts amd a lot.more when the mining boom crashes and the market is flooded with thousands of rx580s for cheap, so people.jud pick them up and don't buy their new cards.

Hence why I said retailers in that line :p

But yes, in the long run, it probably won't be good (hence them making/selling dedicated mining cards) but as it is right now, I'm sure that they are loving the sales i.e. they have gone from being unable to shift certain stock and now they can't make them quick enough to keep up with demand and for the likes of ocuk, being able to sell these gpus for £150/200+ extra is a **** ton of profit.

Also, the miners are buying up any cheap 1060 and 1070 etc. that they can get their hands on as well now so nvidia will be facing the same issue to, granted not as much as AMD though.....

Just ignore all the rumours. Look at the rumours of the RX 480, so much fake news. Once the real reviews come out, then we can say AMD is doomed if they fail. Pointless reading too much into the Vega FE results imo.

I wonder if you'd be saying that if it was smashing the Ti ;)
Well that would obviously be different then would it not? Point is RX Vega is meant to be better at gaming, plus drivers will only get better in the next 4-5 weeks.

If it does not then it will be fail. Going all the way from 28nm to 14nm and if they cannot at least bring 1080 performance it will be mega fail. Even if so, does not mean it is the end for RTG, Navi is meant to be the first architecture Raja worked on from the start since he joined AMD, so I would still look forward to that, but in the mean time nothing stopping me from rocking a Volta (which is meant to bring a huge jump in performance) while waiting ;)

Isn't there apparently issues with define's Vega Frontier benchmark? Namely he was setting the frequencies and power limit manually using wattman & using a PSU under the recommended spec? Regardless, I don't think Vega should be written off until some professional media outlets have done some reviews, especially of the RX Vega gaming edition which is supposed to be competitively priced for that market segment.

not a rumour, this is someone with vega FE showing game footage and benchmarks.

vega FE is the same as rx vega, same silicone just half the memory.

take it as the titan x Pascal and 1080ti, it might get slightly better (5% ) performance from AIB cooling, but it wasn't thermal throttling as it was at 81c with 4400rpm fan speed.

if I cranked the oem blower on my titan to 100% it would boost up to 2ghz, aib cooling might net 5% more out of it but most of it is for noise levels.

You have to do that with amd cards to help them attain their boost clocks or they'll throttle. But if you look at his firestrike telemetry data, the gpu was solid at 1600mhz at 81c fan 4400rpm.
And no his psu isn't causing any problems as the gcard would have a hard limit current protection that would save both the psu and the gcard if current clipping was occuring.

Edit telem data might not be fs, i must check it might be game. Yep was for witcher, so it's possible firestrike result was throttling power and or clocks.

Would people be happy with 1080 performance at 1080 prices out of curiosity?
In long term it will definitely get faster. Not sure if perf/watt will ever get there tho.
So yes, 1080 prices I'm getting one right away.

Driver makers have a lot of work to do here.
