Fermi was not a failure, the GTX 580 was a very good card indeed.

I agree, but it got delayed and the inital releases were not so great. Once they could got a new revision out with the RX580 it performed very well but Nvidia had to do a lot of PR while waiting on GTX480.

seen that, never heard of powercolour before?

are they generally reliable? it's kinda important because my friend isn't tech savvy so just want a card I can put in and is going to work for the next 2 years or so hassle free

I think Powercolour are one of the better options when going for AMD, Their cards have been consistently good since Hawaii.

£400 for VEGA, i'll just leave this here :p

Ok so I get that the mining thing is pushing up demand and therefore the prices go up but who is responsible for setting the high prices? The manufacturers or the people selling them retail? It really feels like people are being exploited just because they are willing to pay it...

yeah, there is no suggestion at all at how old the driver is, might only be a week or 2 older than the latest internal gaming driver for vega RX.

The driver ID matched the Vega FE driver from June 24th.
pcper said AMD confirmed the drivers are recent, not old ones.
