Between 1070 and 1080? ABANDON SHIP

:D That as to be a stunt that went wrong ...looks like that hurt

Rather than look at gaming performance with the FE, how does it look as a workstation card as that's it's main focus?

If it looks on point with that, then we can assume the gaming Vega will be on point for gaming.

4 weeks to find out!

Hopefully :) Would be funny if it came out and it was on par with 1080 ti to see all the back peddling on here. Doubtful but ya never know.

I mean unless the are deliberately holding back the driver branch with all the features until the RE launch, the only explanation about the F's Edition is that they felt forced to launch it this quarter in it's half-finished state due to the statements they made at a previous earnings call.

Lowering expectations is a well worn political strategy, then you hit the audience with something far better than they were expecting, everyone is in raptures.

As a workstation card it massively beats Nvidia in performance/$.

However the tradeoff for that is it doesn't have 'official' certified drivers for the professional software packages.

It doesn't have application certified drivers like a Radeon Pro, and compared to the Quadro P5000 it loses 6/9 tests. When it wins, it wins a little, when it loses it loses loads.
Although it slaps around the P4000 and P2000.

Advantage is £1k vs £2-4k, but as mentioned it's not application certified.

My worry is price. We are assuming (I am) that the release of a competitive Vega will hopefully mean cheaper prices all round. BUT, the £300 price point of the 580 seems to suggest that Vega will be very similar to current Nvidia prices.

to be fair, he has said hundreds of times they are GAMERSnexus, their primary focus is gaming, that's why even when cards like the titan Xp launched he said "I doubt Nvidia will send us one as we're a gaming channel and would never recommend a card like this for gaming"

A graphic's card reviewer knows perfectly well that Nvidia market the Titans as the ultimate gaming graphics card, sadly their ego's blind them to the fact that they're being fobbed off by their Nvidia contact because Nvidia aren't interested in giving 1200 pound cards to every hack reviewer on Youtube, Reviewers like Jay2cents get a Titan from Nvidia or a board partners every time one is released. It's nothing to do with not recommending a card like that for gaming, Nvidia recommend it all the time, The truth is they give them to a couple of reviewers and that's it.

Well just had a read..... **** looks worse than FuryX that made me go Nv first time since gayforce 440mx like 14 years ago. Ill preorder one see for myself but this looks not much faster than my 980ti!!!! What can rhey gain in 1 minth?? 20% Max??

I expected low and even low seems to high Ffs

What does that mean? How does one get certified drivers? Just apply for them?

Apply them and supply the card and drivers to those software developers, it's rigorously tested to make sure it's 99.99999% bug and issues free.

One of the reasons these cards cost a fortune, they're tuned for a specific rendering path for the developers and their techniques.

Yup, an overclocked 980Ti is going to be a match for the frontier edition. It's bonkers :O

to be fair jayz had to kick and scream to get a titan, he apparently had to call and request and beg for the two for the Terry crews build as they kept saying "no it's not a gaming card it's a deep learning card" and when the Xp released he had to go through it all again.

if you notice basically all the reviewers had to buy titans to test them, only a couple actually got them from Nvidia to show off.

anyway, back on topic.

at the end of the day in those initial benchmarks the ryzen was in line with an i5, so he was being technically correct in calling in that.

but, that was the 1800x, and it was losing to a cpu half it's price in games, when he reviewed the 1700 he said it was much much better price to performance, but again noted he wouldn't recommend it for gaming because the r7s were aimed at content creators.
Are you still denying that Titans are gaming cards?

Did you see that PCper didn't have much success overclocking the FE. Obviously that's not that important at the moment. Hopefully the RX has a lower TDP and might not run so hot.

It also had weird power issues, and dips; which is odd because the card is rather beefy looking for power delivery. Still lots of testing to be done in regards to the Frontier Edition.

It performs about the same but slightly slower than a 1080 when the 1080 is using Quadro drivers.

The professional software results actually just vindicate the gaming stuff. Of course if you compare the Vega professional software results with a card that doesn't use professional drivers then it tends to do quite well, but that is kind of meaningless.
