Whatever way you twist it - it is still a (probably) easily avoidable PR disaster for AMD that is entirely of their own making.

Assumedly given how close we are to the RX Vega launch they could have had someone go down to say PCPer simultaneously with the FE launch and do a controlled demo of gaming Vega at the very least even if there was some caveats.

They puld have sent someone over to PCPer to demonstrate RX Vega in private with the condition they cant public started performance numbers.but can use adjectives.

Nope, AMD simply confirmed to PCPer that Vega was running correctly.

I was referring to future with Volta it will probably be simpler to keep steady 144.

Presuming we dont have new games, new graphic effects that again bring fps down below 100 below 60 even. Im not talking max frames but the minimum where everything gets bogged down and the in game feeling is wrecked

Watched Linus quick take on Frontier, he calls Vega out as a 300w 1060. Obviously bit of his exaggeration but yet another voice for frontier and rx are not going to vary performance that much.
Im willing to believe such new technology he could be wrong, hardware will not be the final say this gen could rely far more on the intelligent design aspect. Could be a washout but its reasonable to think AMD already knew these problems at outset, I think they are running late though

Frontier ran the SPEC tests correctly. AMD are being stubborn perhaps, rx isnt out and they wont be rushed on it?

Really? £500+ surely that would kill RX VEGA as surely that the price is where AMD are going to try and get NVIDIA by the goolies..

Hi,
AMD's 480 and 580 cards went up to £300 before the mining took off again, Vega is a high end gpu so I think it will at least match the Fiji prices or be more than Fiji prices due to the pounds current value.

Ok so it has to be asked.

Just why did AMD release this card first?

I really cannot fathom an upside to all the negative press it is getting.

Maybe performance is poor and they're looking at it as they can't do anything about it so, they're pushing these overpriced FE's out the door first hoping to sell as many as possible before the gaming cards release and the value drops of a cliff.
Maybe they're not interested in selling many gaming cards as they know they won't be competitive so they're putting the effort into selling Vega professionally, If that's the case the price for the gaming cards could be sky high.
Maybe they're thinking about how Nvidia get away with releasing a Titan and then releasing a gaming version that everyone thinks is at a great price even though it sells anywhere from £600 up to a £1000 and they want a piece of the pie.

My question:
There's an online company using Vega for streaming games right now, does that not require Vega's gaming drivers to be ready? I'm wondering if they do the game work before streaming or it's done by the gpu at the players end?

Vega's gonna be much faster then the 1080ti, this geezer down the pub told me...

Hmm so you met him too..... Must be true!

Not actually. With just a version of Fiji drivers from January 2017, what I see is perf between 1070 and 1080 (and close to GTX1080Ti on Fallout 4, a gameworks game).
WITH NO DRIVERS!!!!!!!!!!
What would be the perf of the 1080 if someone put Kepler drivers to it trying to run Spy or Firestrike today? I bet even the RX470 would trash it on those benchmarks.

Also the FE drivers have "Game mode" not "Gaming Mode". There is a difference in the English language between the meaning of those two, that even a Greek like myself can understand.
Maybe people should open the dictionary?

Where are you getting your Fallout 4 info from? If it was Pcoers live stream they've redone the test because apparently they had used incorrect settings.

PCper debunked the "old January drivers" theory last week.

As someone who is not English could you please clarify what you mean?

Is not a gaming card nor is advertised as such. So AMD can provided it without proper gaming drivers. Where is their fault?

You mean at the FE launch event when they had an on-stage demo of an FE playing Sniper Elite 4 at 60-70 FPS (settings unknown) it wasn't to advertise it's gaming ability?

I'd probably go with the theory already mentioned of hitting the H1 release date.
Considering all the bad PR they've had it would probably have been much better to delay the FE until the RX release or even later. I suppose money comes into it as well - if it's not for sale your not making money.

Exactly, During the livestream Ryan at Pcper said he'd spoken to his AMD contact that day. He was told that the FE had the latest drivers for work and gaming,
He was also told that the only difference between this FE driver and the one that releases with the RX at the end of July will be any tweaks they do over the next four weeks.

They've advertised it as being a good gaming card, Even Raj has said that the FE will provide a good 4k gaming experience .

@ Panos
I don't see the point in getting yourself all worked up over the opinions others have about a graphics card, Maybe it's time to take a step back and chill out.

We don't know what the performance is. What does "ready" mean, it really ambiguous?

even if it's not a gaming card, vega RX would still need at least 30% more performance for it to barely land where conservative estimates puts it.
and that much performance seem unlikely, having vega RX loosing to the 1080 after over a year is really bad for AMD Radeon brand.
