Teleportation

Very interesting... But was it the same particle that arrived, or just a perfect clone with the original (now dead) particle's memories? ;)

I hope they checked that the photon didn't have a goatee beard because it was in fact an evil copy of the original photon caused by the Annular confinement beam passing through a pocket of theta radiation in turn causing the pattern buffers to overload..............

When people talk about this, they forget that all our cells are replaced every 7 years or so anyway, so are we just a perfect clone of ourselves a decade ago?

Neither really. The title is very ambiguos. It was not transported in any way shape or form, it didn't disappear and reappear. It was the infomation from two entangled particles that was transported.
So what it should say is "two connected particles swap quantum states".

But things like memories are transferred and backed up to new cells before the old cells are removed. Messing about with all cells at once would be problematic...
And then what happens if the system CTDs or BSODs mid-way through a beaming operation... or if The Russians hack the account... or if Windows decides it needs to update something...?

Brain cells do not replace, so actually you are always yourself. Just always in a new vessel every ten years. It is this replacement and damage to dna that causes ageing.

we should be ok with BSOD unless they are running on Windows 98 trying to play C&C Tiberian Sun!

hmmm, as said, its not teleportation, its a transfer of quantum states.

if we imagine its possible on a large scale with mass (highly unlikely btw), then all you would do is make a clone and kill the original (or keep two of the same) - i'll skip that thanks.
also, it would single handedly make most human lives worthless overnight.

would this (in the future), aid long distance communications? I mean sending messages across the universe?
yes in theory instant communication over an infinite distance, the only problem is one particle must be taken to that position. So it is a drawback that it can only travel the distances that we can travel via spaceship. That said if you stuck it to a satellite, it could give you real time images of the object your observing.

Does this mean we're living in a hologram then? how can two particles behave in such a way if space is separation? have we hacked the universe?

The only way this will be cool in any way is if it goes BBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR GGGGGRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE BBBBBBBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ like an old fax machine.

Describing a single photon as an object is really pushing it.

I assume if you could trap an array of photons (billions or trillions of them), you could certainly have an imaging device... not sure how long it takes to entangle two of them, let alone 1e(9+) of them...

Not teleportation really. In order for faster than light travel you would need to bend space or travel through a worm hole. Both only theoretical right now. Besides, even if you could teleport, where would you go? I think I'd probably teleport to Asda for some beers and a pasty.
