So guys what did I say ??? This is Fury 2 situation.

Will be eating power running vs 1 year old NV tech. Only price can save it. All depends if its sub 500 with AIO ....

The Fury X at least got close the Ti in it's time; even its 3D Mark Surpassed the Titan X.

Vega isn't even doing that so far.

Lol! :D

Long time forum reader, thought I'd finally sign up and post an observation. In the Assassins Creed Unity video, the CPU utilisation appears consistently lower on the Vega FE and the 7700K processor clock speeds are bouncing around. In the final ballroom scene the processor speeds appear to be all over the place, dipping down to 2.1Ghz(!). The Nvidia powered videos don't seem to suffer the processor speeds jumping around. Just wondered if this was potentially down to bugs within AMD drivers causing conflicts or whether there is more to it?

Welcome :)

If the 1080 performance is true then that's pretty sad, whats the tagline for this card gonna be? "AMD, bringing you last years performance this year"? Just seems like things haven't moved on much from fury x, and at best Vega is a somewhat updated fury x. There's meant to be what, 3 iterations of this? Hopefully what we're seeing is mid-range and the high end version has more to offer. Though it wouldn't really surprise me if the only real difference between the 3 was low and mid = air cooled, high = water cooled and clock speeds making the difference.

Yeah, I find it very sad personally if turns out to be true. My projection was it would be around 1080Ti performance at least. It still maybe, in a year or two's time with driver improvements :p

Unless they price it very well, which it does not look like they will be, it will be an epic fail. Very disappointing indeed. I am still waiting for proper reviews in 2 weeks time though.

If it does turn out to be crap in price/performance it'll be either a really overclocked RX580 (when the market settles) or a Fury and overclock. I'm not buying green until they support Freesync!

At the moment my biggest concern is actually power, I can't go any higher than 600W without compromising my case layout considerably. I'm still trying to figure out where all the TDP is going if not into performance, surely GloFo's manufacturing process isn't this crap? I mean Zen turned out fine on (presumably) a similar process?

Fury was actually on ti level lol This card will be ten time worse , imagine if fury could barely compete with 980 and drew insane amount of power while doing that thats how bad it is

Im still waiting for Vega...

I Just sold my 2 x 290x for £430 combined with Waterblocks.

So i have that money ready to go towards a Vega card.

LOL! Who would have thought that AMD would do a couple of Vega tour events to deal with the bad publicity of the FE launch, and instead of improving the situation caused by their silence, AMD PR makes things even worse than they were before! Seriously guys, why don't you just stay at home and spend that time hitting yourselves in the nuts with baseball bats, and cut out the middle-man?

Best case scenario

Bottom tier vs 1080 ($300 cheaper with gsync tax)

Next event = middle tier AMD vs 1080ti ($300 or whatever cheaper with gsync tax)

Final event / reveal = top tier AMD vs titan / ti (not sure of price maybe same or touch cheaper with gsync) little (lot) of bragging about being single fastest / most powerfullest card everest

Any of the other scenarios are essentially the same. because if AMD can't atleast match 1.5 year old tech (yes, even taking into account the huge r&d budget - 1 year is a life time in tech)

They really did mess something up drastically , even if you just do basic math like Fury X + ice cubes + some glue = water ??? ok I suck at math

What is an educated guess for Volta's arrival in gaming form?

I need an upgrade. GPU and monitor.... but I don't want to spend full price on a card that will be old hat by the end of the year.

I've seen an offer on a second hand (boxed new) 1080ti at a great price, but it's still way more than I am comfortable spending on a GPU.

Even second hand 1080's are way too expensive.

Either they really, really have problems.

Or they want a launch before Nvidia reveal another devastating price cut. I think the last cut was unexpected and shocked AMD. Nvidia showed they can still catch AMD off guard (yes we all knew they had ti, but expectes them to hold off) maybe Nvidia jus followed their own launch schedule?

The fact remains, IF Nvidia cut price again, AMD , already having almost 0 market mindshare will struggle, like previous skus which were very capable, if a little hot.

I didn't see this price cut?

12FF products will start appearing at the end of the year - I suspect though it will be a few months after that for gaming Volta cards without a pressing reason to get them out earlier.

So what should I do then? Look for a cheap second hand 1070 as an interim?

If it was a few months back I'd have said do that - now its a bit of a tough one with Vega still something of an unknown how it will shake things up and 1070s holding their value second hand keeping the prices up :s on the flipside you can't really go wrong with a 1070 and a good chance if you don't hesitate of selling it on again while the prices are still high when new stuff emerges.

AMD's own slides show they will not have the top performing cards this gen. Those slides can be found in this thread.

Vega is targeting the 1070/1080 market, but Ti and Titan are not going to have a competitor at all this gen.

I'm afraid it's 100x more likely that the "event" (if you can call it that) featured Big Vega against a 1080, because that is where AMD is right now. They are nowhere near the Ti or the Titan.

Two weeks to confirmation. Then we can shunt the Hype Train into a shed, and start dismantling it for its scrap value :p
