I'm surprised they didn't go for the price crown. Also judging by how they have been talking a lot about the Finewine technology are they anticipating/hinting that vega will get faster in future. Will be interesting to see what went wrong.

How do you come to that conclusion? Other sites have said one of the points of these bundles is to try and deter miners, but of course you have an alternate theory that as usual is on the negative side. Gamers nexus got their air cooled vega with the aio mod up to around 1700mhz, so it might not be as rare as you seem to think.

The mining thing is just AMD marketing trying to convince you it is for gamers benefit.Miners don't care for a $700 345w GPU.
But there lies the truth anyway, if supply was good it wouldn't matter much about the miners. Moreover, AMD are happy to sell other models with far lower TDP that would be far more attractive to miners without a bundle.

If AMD were really concerned about Miners then they would add code to the drivers to detect the populr mining software and automatically throttle down, and would sell a mining specific version without this limitation. Furthermore, if AMD realy cared about blockign mners they wouldn't add dedicated architecture instructions just for mining.

What I said isn't my theory, it is what has been reported on several different tech sites as an explanation. This is backed-up by the fact that only on August the 14th will pre-orders be available, with stock for known AIB models not until September, and some peple with connections to the supply chain like Roff saying nothing until at least September at a minimum.

I don't understand these monitor bundles. Why would anyone who isn't invested in free sync think now is a good time to throw my money in that direction?

IMO that is mostly going to be reducing power draw rather than boosting performance.
I think we saw that actually has the effect of boosting performance. Vega is clipped by this power problem, micro throttling.

The freesync bundle applies to one single monitor the 34" Samsung $900?
Not that surprised because $200 off a $200 monitor would be too nice even if the bundle is 100 more. One video discussed how wolfstein wont be offered in Germany, implying that EU does get a bundle offer. The downside is probably the offer is only going to apply to people paying four figures.

Miners wont buy a card that uses this much power. Mining is about MPG not MPH
The top end of the market is never comparing that well to the value end on performance per watt or per dollar.
None of Vega features likely help mining, we are not even sure if Gamers are helped by Vega features thats why everyone is :mad::eek::mad: base case for Vega looks poor.
As always I think AMD is the Tortoise vs the Hare but Nvidia doesnt appear stupid enough to let them win this time. Till a 3rd party review comes out we still know zero

Yeah a lot of people are hyping the 2xFP16 in games, but really we have no idea how much of a gain it will really give, when it can be used, under which conditions etc etc...
When its all said and done it will be a few percent at most. The reason it hasn't been supported before is purely because it just isn't useful for a vast majority of work.

There are already mining cards listed for the 480\580 etc, if the mining trend continues its probably to assume they would do the same for vega gpu's.

Mining is no way near as good as it was last month where we saw prices go silly. So unlikely.

just been thru the amd press release here are excerpts:

"Radeon Packs include a $200 discount on the 34" Samsung CF791 curved ultrawide FreeSync monitor, and a $100 discount on select Ryzen™ 7 1800X processor and 370X motherboard combos -- $300 in combined hardware savings. To power the new setup, there are three options for Radeon RX Vega:

  • Radeon Red Pack – Featuring the Radeon RX Vega 56, an air-cooled card priced at $499 SEP.
  • Radeon Black Pack – Featuring the Radeon RX Vega 64, an air-cooled card priced at $599 SEP.
  • Radeon Aqua Pack – Featuring the Radeon RX Vega 64 Liquid Cooled Edition, the most powerful of the Radeon RX Vega graphics cards, priced at $699 SEP.
Along with the Radeon RX Vega graphics card, the discount on the Samsung monitor with Radeon FreeSync and Ryzen CPU+motherboard, each Radeon Pack also includes, in select regions, two highly anticipated games in Wolfenstein® II: The New Colossus™ and Prey® for free, an estimated $120 value.12

For gamers who already have the ideal setup and just want to get their hands on a groundbreaking Radeon RX Vega graphics card, AMD is also offering the Radeon RX Vega 56 on its own, the world's most powerful graphics card under SEP $400, and the Radeon RX Vega 64 air-cooled card priced at SEP $499."

Look at how the vanilla cards have been reduced to a side note.. its pretty clear if you want to buy these cards on Aug 14 - be ready with an extra $100-200 :D
how do these coupons generally work for a multi-gpu purchase?

Not even sure if hbm cards make for good mining cards, the 480 and 580 using gddr and being the most popular seems to be what people want.

August 1st is also a pivotal day for BTC. A massive change that has taken years, its possible for the price and also ETH to move greatly going forward. So far as I can tell demand is not suffering a pullback or breakdown, its more idling right now. The price remaining so high I would normally guess as a bullish sign but cant say I know either way.

Only thing I read really was ETH needs 8gb now not 4gb so maybe you can pickup cheap 4gb 480 cards cheaper then previous. Its probably not absolute just less demand for that size memory now

Samsung CF791 curved ultrawide FreeSync monitor

A really nice monitor but its 100hz. Ok very nice but not perfect (for FPS players) and that price is too high not to buy your ideal monitor.
Did anyone already want to buy this particular monitor

Here's to 20-30% more performance whilst being hotter and louder!!!

:D
well I havent had a AMD card since it was ATI, and I have a free-sync monitor. Lemme think it was a 4850 i seem to remember or 970pro cant remember anyway Ive basically had Nvidia cards since the TNT days. I Fancy a change.

Wonder if NVidia are tempted to flood the market, drop prices and give AMD's remaining market share a damn good mauling? We might be waiting on reviews etc but it seems pretty clear this isn't near good enough from AMD and you'd think NVidia would try and kick them when they're down.

for those who missed the livestream :D

Managed to watch about 30 minutes of that. Raja is certainly improving his presentation skills and AMD as a whole seem to be getting better. Still not there yet, as they fail to get the crowd hyped and pumped enough to make a lot of noise and applause, but getting there. Maybe they will nail it for Navi :D

A small part of me is still tempted by Vega 56 :o:p:D

This was presented to tech press, there won't be any hooting and hollering. :D

There should be :p

Plus Lisa was expecting something when she first came on stage and said hello.

Nice to see you are monitoring the forum Matt, tell Lisa & Raja, we want better pricing in the UK! :p

Vega 56 for £350 and I might bite ;)

Has this been posted?

Only like 3-4 times, not to mention I put it in the OP.

If anyone wants a round up of all the info just go to the first post ;)
