Talk to me about 640d Gran Coupe please

Nice, I'm debating one of these in convertible form (coz I'm gay :p )

I toyed with one but couldn't find one in budget that wasn't tatty as anything! Quite sad when you look at a 40k car that's got scuffed bumpers, worn seats and in one case a horrendously scratched nav screen.

Picked it up yesterday, pretty happy with it but sad to see the XJ go. Its a 15 plate with 13.7k on the clock. Just to check before I badger the dealer, do BMWs come with a service book to show service history or is it on online at the dealers these days?

Looks lovely. Glad you got sorted. Any particular comments now that you've had a few days to get used to it? How does it compare to the XJ?

Thanks. Not really that comparable, the XJ is more a limo type car and more comparable to the 7 series. The XJ floats over everything whereas the GC has sportier handling (not saying it has sporty handling). The GC has 38bhp more than the XJ but it isn't really a large enough increase to notice that much difference. Both engines are pretty smooth for diesels, I wouldn't say one was any smoother than the other but the GC looks to be far more frugal than the XJ. Although both of the cars are pretty much the same size XJ is 5.1m and the GC is 5m, the GC feels smaller than it really is, probably down to the coupe body.

The HK system isnt as good as the B&W system in the XJ but the iDrive is leagues ahead in terms of usability. I will miss the XJ, it had a load more kit in it and it felt a bit more special to waft along in but the GC is a fantastic car and I will love my time with it.

Are you finding it more laggy than the XJ? I thought the 640d felt to have a lot more lag, but I'd had a few years driving an XFR between my XFS and the 640d, so I could just be remembering it wrong.

I know it isn't fair to put the GC & XJ directly alongside each other but I was just interested to what your thoughts were since you made the switch.

I know what you mean about 'sportier' rather than sporty. The GC is definitely happier as a sporty cruiser than as a back-road racer.

No, not at all.

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong then, although I did test drive a 535d when I still had my XFS and came away from that thinking the XFS felt a lot more responsive too. Oh well, sounds like you're happy with it

Recently went on a boys roadtrip to watch the Tour De France this year. Went in the 640D Cab. Couldnt think of a better tool for the job. Its a great car, albeit it a bit tight with 3 adults in it lol, but the boot is pretty big! I found this one down south in great condition earlier this year. 65 plate MSport+ with surround cams and adaptive led. 16k mls, space grey w/ black leather. Pretty much perfect spec on these I think.

Still considering selling it however, but may keep until we do LeMans2018 in it next year. Might even get it wrapped for the trip. Need something faster and more sporty.

Have access to free USB map updates for the car so thought I would update it, 23Gb file it's downloading and going to take 18 hours!! WTF!!
