what internet security is good for a gaming pc

Personally, but some may disagree, if you're using Windows 10 and it's a gaming PC, and you're not downloading dodgy files, then the supplied Defender does the job.

You can download 3rd party Malware checkers - but i've only ever caught one virus on my system and that was thanks to my wife opening an attachment, years ago, from a friend unwittingly spreading a virus via some crappy meme.

But if you're not downloading from unknown 3rd party sources and sensible about what you open - you should be fine with the Window's security features.

I've had zero issues with Avast free edition. It doesn't interfere with my gaming and it has blocked some very occasional threats.

Whilst I agree that Defender does a good job, I do tend to download a lot of game mods (ETS2 and Farm Simulator). Although I try to only use reputable mod-hosting sites, there is always the chance of getting a virus - especially when some mods have to downloaded from somewhere like uploaded.net.

I do play a lot of other games but Farm Sim is strangely relaxing after a long day at the office... It's also strangely addictive!!!

At the moment I'm taking a long break from it though as it does get somewhat repetitive. Currently starting a fresh play-through of Skyrim. Avast does exactly what Steampunk has said and goes into 'gaming mode'. If only I could persuade my parents to switch to Avast from Norton/Symantec...

i dont mind paying for a anti virus software just not sure which 1 to go for. i like the idea of something that suspends scanning or resource hungry jobs while gaming?

I'd agree with this. This of course is one of those topics which people are often quite staunchly opinionated on but I'm been happy with Windows Defender.

If you're concerned about AV hogging resources you might find the following interesting reads:

I use a combo:

FortiClient real time AV and web filtering. It's free and robust, I've used it for years as it's part of our works VPN solution.
Built in Win10 defender with periodic scanning enabled. It's better than a lot of people think.
Common sense

should i enable windows defender with avast? or just leave it turned off cause it was turned off cause i had norton for the past year but my norton subscription has ended

ok cool thanks. do any of you guys think its worth upgrading to avast premium for 19.99 for the year? to get the features that increase performance and stuff?
