I can forgive marketing blunders, huge delay, uninspiring performance at launch, even the power consumption.

But then they go and ask that price?
I feared we would see repeat of Fiji launch failure. No, this time it is even worse.

Theoretically yes, but when do you see unbranded garbage tier PSUs with platinum rating?

It's not theoretical, it's just what it is, a measure of efficiency. Granted the higher the efficiency the more likely the PSU is of better quality. My point is that it doesn't rule out a Gold rated PSU being excellent, at all.
As always, check reviews.

Quite possibly the most boring GPU design ever. I'm snoring. ZzzzZz

Team rocket edition?

http://www.gamersnexus.net/news-pc/3016-amd-moves-vega-56-embargo-forward-prioritizes-over-64

Additional information we’ve obtained today includes the rest of the embargo schedule, as below:

  • Unboxing embargo lift on Saturday, August 12, 11AM EDT: AMD permits unboxing photos or videos only.
  • Performance embargo lift for Vega 56 on August 14, 9AM EDT.
  • RX Vega 64 already in hands of some reviewers, with unboxing embargo lift on Saturday, August 12, 11AM EDT.
  • RX Vega 64 performance embargo lift on August 14, 9AM EDT.
  • Update: Vega 56 launches on 8/28.
AMD also indicated, just for point of reference, that the box included with RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56 is not retail packaging. Expect some minor changes on that front.

Although we were told we wouldn’t be sampled, following our defiance of AMD’s decision to express favoritism by permitting only select reviewers to publish early Threadripper data, we will still have Vega content ready on embargo lift dates. We’ve sourced information and parts elsewhere. Turns out that talking about thermal compound efficacy on an IHS is disallowed, despite the fact that TR’s thermal performance was already published by outlets expressly permitted to break embargo.

Regardless, we’ve got Vega content on the way.

I keep seeing everyone talk of price but yet see no prices anywhere. Can someone tell me the bloody price of this thing.

Official prices USD are:
RX Vega 64 Reference Design $499
RX Vega 64 Limited Edition $599
RX Vega 64 Liquid 699

So if we use current exchange rate and add %20 VAT we get the following non-gouged UK prices. The Limited edition and the AIO come with bonus extras in the US, not sure about EU.
  • RX Vega 64 Reference Design ~£460
  • RX Vega 64 Limited Edition ~£550
  • RX Vega 64 Liquid ~£650
IMHO the £200 price hike for the AIO is far too high, unless the additional extras are worth a lot.

WOW AMD sure are making some crazy moves ! Great idea, lock out one of the most respected reviewers of the moment because they showed how the thermal paste spread out, and were the only ones to do so, that's genius !!! Are they on crack or something at AMD ???
I'm not personally a big fan of GN but they do make some informative videos here and there.

It's not theoretical, it's just what it is, a measure of efficiency.
I think you misunderstood, I wasn't saying efficiency was just theoretical. I was saying that while the idea that high efficiency doesn't equal quality/reliability is true in theory, in practice it does equal quality/reliability because you only get quality high end PSUs with platinum rating.

They signed an NDA and they broke it. If AMD allowed this sort of thing to do on NDA's wouldn't mean very much and everyone would be breaking them.

I dunno but if you signed a deal you follow the deal.

They follow the NDA and they get stuff to test. They break the NDA and get ignored.

It's not new stuff to do this.

All they had to do was follow the NDA on when they were allowed to post information, they decided to post information early against what they were told because they got greedy for views.

NDA on threadripper performance isn't "you can NEVER post this" it was just "you can post this AFTER this date".

Some people obviously had a different agreement and were allowed to talk about some paste early. Gamersnexus screwed up and broke theirs.

It's a bit of a shame that the price jumps by $100 between the Reference Design and the Limited Edition just for an aesthetic upgrade that people without case windows will never see. Considering it then jumps $100 again for the Limited Edition Liquid it would have been cool if they had made a Reference Design Liquid for $100 less :(

Agree. It's a form of censorship which is no good for anyone.

Edit*

If they signed an NDA then yea they should have just respected it.

I may have misread this, but the issue is that they demonstrated how TIM spreads on the TR IHS using the dummy TR chip AMD sent lots of reviewers. How exactly does that break NDA? The size of the IHS has been common knowledge for months and not under NDA, they could have done the video using a Xmm by Ymm piece of card instead of the fake TR and it would have made no difference.

AMD gone full retard.

You're missing the reason for NDA.

All these reviewers are doing it for the views and are really, really greedy for it so everyone getting hardware early has to sign an agreement to not try and cheat by posting early.

You say do it with a piece of card, well they didn't they said it was TR and that's greeding for the views.

It's not how much you break it by it's breaking it at all. Everyone has to play by the rules so everyone gets a fair shot at the audience when the NDA drops.

Some groups had a different NDA like MSI being able to put out a how to install a CPU video. That doesn't mean everyone else was allowed to do it at that time.

All gamersnexus had to do was wait for the NDA they signed to drop on talking about that information and it would all be fine. Instead they cheat and post 2 days early.
