evening all

i wonder if you can help me. im looking to upgrade to a 1080ti. initially i was looking at something like this Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080Ti "Xtreme Edition" mainly because it has a load of spare HDMI for VR use.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...dr5x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-001-au.html

reviews seem great and i thought i was sold but i then had a thought..... if i wasnt fussed about having the extra HDMI ports i could get something like this Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080Ti Gaming OC

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...dr5x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-19h-gi.html

this would save me about £75 when shopping around.

my feeling here is that although the clock speeds are different all the cards no matter the base seem to over clock quiet well anyway.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080Ti Gaming OC
  • Core Clock: 1544MHz
  • Boost Clock: 1657MHz
  • Memory: 11264MB 11010MHz GDDR5X
Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080Ti "Xtreme Edition"
  • Core Clock: 1632MHz
  • Boost Clock: 1746MHz
  • Memory: 11264MB 11448MHz GDDR5X
Everything i think i have seen points to
  • Boost Clock: 2000 - 2100MHz
  • Memory: 11448 - 12000MHz GDDR5X

is this the case?

am i best to get the cheaper card?

cheers in advance for any info and help, greatly appreciated

I'm in the same boat.

I want the fastest card and the Aorus is a cracker. Zotac Also?

See here also - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/which-1080ti.18789963/

Aorus Xtreme is great card. It's gaming profile boost clock is 1746, it's OC mode profile boost 1962
And even if you run Spy for hours, the fans barely spin. Also can be found for less than £730.

Got one, already fell in love with it.

But has few drawbacks.
Is very big, very heavy with 2.5x height. So make sure you have clearance.
And make sure you have metal reinforced PCI-e slot.(but doubt is that bigger or heavier than other good 1080Tis).
To put in perspective the cooler alone could challenge the 295X2 weight and size. :P
The FuryX looks puny in size next to it.

Other than that, is amazingly beautiful card also, and has glowing RGB eagles on the back and side plate. If you like those things. (it will look perfect with the Aorus X399 Gaming 7 next week ;) )

Used both (white one) as well as 1080 version

The Gaming will be hotter and louder and standard 3 year warranty

The Aorus Xtreme has vastly better cooking, temps and sound along with 4 year warranty .

Push Aorus Extreme if you got the cash, the normal Aorus without the backplate and 4 year warranty is lacking .

If you can use £75 else where, might be worth it, recommend using Thermal Grizzlie Paste on the core - yes they do support cooler removal .
Should help temps a bit

With zotac, quick Google search and on here, after 3 years is up, 2 extra years, believe RMA centre is Hong Kong

Plus hats off to @Gibbo for getting the black edition

Talking about RMA, the big bonus for the Gigabytes cards, are the gigabyte RMA centre in UK, and there is an Aorus rep in here if you need help.

Aorus is heavy but no where near that of Zotac Xtreme or a few others due to shorter PCB and smart heatsink work .

I got myself a GPU support for my Aorus for looks and support though , should see it on my build logo , page 6 or 7 lol

leekeene has not configured his/her trust account

think i sorted it sent you a message or an email no sure!!!

where is teh build thread didnt know you can get supports. :)

Just another suggestion, have you considered getting the cheapest 1080Ti you can find and watercooling it?

i got an AIO on the CPU not ever considered getting one for the GPU. again id but an AIO not making my own

Yeah where is your build link? :)

I will buy one, if you make 2 :)

Is shame the EK block is not compatible with the Aorus factory backplace :( Seems you resolves the issue with the Alphacool block.

Indeed I did :D very easy to, just use the sorter 8mm bolts supplied with the kit for the VRM and 6mm around the core, as it was an experiment I think it would be all 8mm bit didn't hold as tight

Or you could just use Phanteks ! Used it when a had a Strix card. The most stunner block every, bit the diff in price between the two are great for the roughly same performance - technically alpha will do better on the core

Only problem is stock back plates don't cool anywhere near as good as alphas

Aha, :) thank you. Phantek is the one used on the Waterforce by Gigabyte.
Imho the stock backplate needs a air blowing at it. Which is not a difficult task, and I will give it a try over the weekend to see. I have space to plug 2 140mm fans blowing air at it.
