John Lewis board member: How do we remove the gender pay gap?

Second John Lewis board member: Remove the gender.

First John Lewis board member: GENIUS.
I like your thinking! I get how some people feel and they shouldn't be persecuted for who they are but when they start forcing kids to feel one way I think it has gone to far, let the kids figure out how they feel and let them be kids.

EDIT: Appears to be my 3000th post!

No idea why anyone would consider this to be a problem.

You're still free to dress your daughter like a ballet dancer and your son like an army reservist.

Why do we still have "adults" and "children"? Quite a few kids these days are 6ft+ while their grandparents are shrinking below 5ft.

I'm guessing that these parents also refer to their kids as "it" rather than "he/him" or "she/her" because that would obviously be offensive to them....

recognising the complexities of gender.

Is it really that complex or has the human population just disappeared up its own pretentious backside?

Society is becoming more like a parody of itself every day.

Anything that can increase the selection for boys!

I have an 18 month old and stores always have 3x as much for girls as they do for boys.

That said, I don't understand the outrage. If you don't want your child to wear gender neutral clothes, don't buy them. Simples.

It's more complex than some people (group a) would like to think, but not as complicated as some others (group b) would like to think. It doesn't help that groups a and b overestimate the size and force of each other, while the majority sit in group c and are barely aware of any of this.

Attack Helicopter? ATTACK HELICOPTER? Boy we are a family of Battle Tanks, we've always been a family of Battle Tanks, and I didn't work my turret to the bone providing for this family to raise no Helicopters!

Battle tank? You sicken me.

Gender surely is a case of looking down, checking what you have, then a quick google about what bits belong to what genders and you're good to go. I appreciate there are some cases where people are genetically born with the wrong physical gender (as scientifically documented), but it seems that all of a sudden half the population must now be confused where as the reality is that they are incredibly rare?

Is it a case that the younger generation are just more liberal about wanting to put what in whatever places they feel like rather than restrict it to the norms, without specifically classifying yourself as straight/gay/other? And as they are fighting such a norm they feel they must categorise and/or label themselves to gain acceptance from their peers? There is strength in numbers. The fact is they are very vocal (like many of said generation) and have a platform to speak on social media which never before existed?

Either that or they're just wannabe ancient roamans/greeks?

Gender =/= sex =/= sexuality.

Good try, though.

And yes, it is thought to be rare for gender to diverge from sex, hence why I say that most people aren't at all affected by any of this. It does happen, though. It's not such a dramatic thing, really. Gender is barely even a thing anyway, it's somewhere between a social construct and a product of your own mind, of course it's not going to work in an absolutely clear cut fashion.

So just to be clear, my daughter should be free to choose from "girls' t-shirts" not forced to choose from "t-shirts". Or do you think you have misunderstood what John Lewis are doing (which you clearly have).

JL are removing the signs/labels that say "boys" or "girls". So instead of sections called "Boys' T-shirts" and "Girls' T-shirts" there would be one section called "T-shirts" with all the previous stock in. If you'd like to know how anyone could function in such a mad world, you could visit literally any major chain toy shop which did away with that ages ago.

More than likely they refer to them as the gender THEY want. Who'd have thought 30 years ago when families had 3 boys and wanted a girl that in the future you could just stick a dress on one, give them a Barbie and call them Katie. We're going to end up with a generation of mentally messed up young adults.

No we're not, get back in your box.

Hahahaha, I never thought of it like that.

"NO kevin, me and your father wanted a girl and we ended up with you, so you are going to be called Katie from now on. Here go and put this dress on, you have a pedicure at 11:30."
