Hurricane - Irma

Well... the eye is supposed to go right over me... everything that can turn into a missile has been stored and everything in the garage.

Rather anxious now
I bet it feels very strange but terrifying being where you are if the eye crosses you.

I heard a story before about people mistaking the eye going over them as the end of the storm, then they get hit by the following side of the hurricane.

That must be horrible, good luck to all.

Was watching the news this morning and there was a woman who was from Anguilla who was saying as its a UK overseas territory, it was up to the UK to help sort out the problem with supplies and money. No don't get me wrong, we should help financially if we can, like any country that has suffered from a disaster but where does our obligation start and end?

They don't send tax money to the UK, in fact they are a tax haven and a tourist destination for the very wealthy yet they expect tax payer of this country to sort their problem out, it's obligation without contribution as far as I can see.

@acemastr @thedoc46 are you still staying?
I have evacuated to North Carolina. it took me over 20hrs to get there. this has created the biggest evacuation in US History. Here's the problem. Fuel and traffic.. When you're on the roads, along with millions of others, any gas stations that receive gas, gets crazy queues. I had some 5 gal canisters that i filled. The problem is no where in florida is not in the danger zone. So i'm going to have to wait it completely passes north before i or the millions of others that have evacuted can get back... Imagine how it feels knowing your home has probably been half destroyed and all your possesions are in easy access to whoever wants to help themselves, and you're going to have to wait days before you can get back. I hope that i will somehow still dodge a bullet. Ive been through Wilma, but this one is a completely different beast.

Glad you've managed to get out. Couldn't imagine trying to wait this out while everything around you is just getting ruined.

Idiot alert.

A member on another forum is currently on holiday in Cape Coral, (west side of Florida) and right on the projected point where Irma makes landfall and he is staying put with wine and beer!

Seriously, what goes through their head to make the decision to stay when you don't have to? When you have no property or elderly or disable to look after...you get the hell out.

You would, others will not.

Simple as that.

Personally I would go with the beer.
