Living energy free.

Foraging, hunting and growing. As for other people, this is where staking out a plot and protecting/defending it comes in.
good luck defending many 10s of acres from hordes of humans.
you need enough land for not only food but the wood as well.
you would be better of bunkering down with cans of food etc until the population had thinned.

I didn't say I wouldn't do that either. I have 6 months worth of food and multiple ways to acquire water. I do have a bug out location identified as well if needed. The challenge is then to make sure the food stays my food.

Way to let everyone know where they can find 6 months worth of supplies :D

I take it the op means 'living electricity free'.

Everyone would be dead immediately without energy, metabolising food etc. Not to mention turning wood into heat via fire and so on.

Just saying :)

funny we had a powercut the other day, so it was out with the oil lamps and the candles, lit the fire and prepared for a night of no power, only 1 other house in our neighborhood looked prepared everyone else was sitting in darkness.

aside from the fridge/freezer we'd be able to go without electricity for a decent while, can cook on the fire etc.

there might be a few folk would be screaming about it, but tbh as a species we've been there before we can be there again. not to mention the first thing that humanity as a whole will be doing if the power does go out is figure out how to get it back.

You mock them now but I bet they've taken a mental note which house to raid first.

Protip: Store all your urine in containers and save any charcoal/ash left over from wood/coal fires. Combine them to make an effective fertiliser for growing food.

As an aside, I'd be dead soon enough; having type 1 diabetes and being completely reliant on medication that goes off after a month if it isn't kept chilled.

Anyone under 30 would become suicidal after 2 weeks without WiFi.

Edit: interestingly my auto correct wanted to put "social" instead of "suicidal". Maybe it knows something we don't. :D

We could be fairly self sufficient here. I have a large veg plot (50sqm or so), and the space to expand it much further. We have a few acres of woodland with plenty of wildlife (deer, wild boar, pigeon) we also have an orchard (apples plums pears cherries), nut trees, soft fruit garden, herb garden, there is 2 grape vines that run across the front of the house and a whole pack of unfriendly dogs for guard work. Our larder must be 30sqm and it's packed with dried goods, cans and home made canned goods and preserves. I have equipment to press my fruit for wine/cider. I have out buildings that could be converted to smoke house/refrigeration etc

We'd be OK food wise until it turned into Walking Dead type survival.

Plenty of candles, paraffin etc for light. We've got a load of woodburners throughout the house for heat and about 100 stere of seasoned wood. My new range cooker is tri fuel (gas/electric/wood) so cooking is sorted. Currently have around 2000m3 of gas in the tank, so that would last a while too.

We run off a septic tank, so you could still do your business on the throne. There is a well for water (drinkable) it's never ran dry. Sits around 20 foot deep in winter and 8-10 in summer.

I have 6 spare rooms for those with manual skills/calloused hands...(no moisturized IT nerds need to apply).

Wife swapping if she's hot!

Were they all listening to "I believe in a thing called love?" ;)

The hope and despair in one post lol.....

Have to agree though that anyone under 30 would probably become a wreck at best but instead would probably be preyed upon by older more capable people.
