I've always wanted to do something similar to this - buy a car for a small budget and mod it before moving on to the next one. Had a whole list of cars and budgets I wanted to work through. Never had the time or funds but hopefully do something similar next year.

Regarding this little project I would be up for it!

It doesn't though does it, its an auction with three days left! :p

Are you really questioning just how cheap these things are to buy? If good ones with rebuilt engines can be had sub 2k ill be able to hook myself up with a proper ropey one for less than you put into that shed of a celica ;) With my change I might even be able to street port the engine ghetto style (read acme style) with my dremel.

Thinking about it I could even bolt on some shoddy turbo and call it the "turbo toaster". I know a sign writer so some freebie fast and furious wrap might be in order as well, at least I can look fast while broken down.

Just rent a car for a day, its what they are for. With a £500 budget, should be able to get something with a bit of go in it.
Don't forget to lie about its use though.

The Celica wasn't actually cheap so I'd hope so!

Should have been £500 though. :p

Might I suggest a tweak of this to make it more interesting?

£350 for the car and £350 to modify it for example? Or 400/400 500/500 etc etc.
