Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

Wouldn't be surprised to learn it's a retired US Veteran that snapped. I mean if you look at the graphics from the BBC it must take some skill to shoot people from the window to the concert.

Seems pretty racist of you to assume that a white person cant be a Muslim.

Wait... it is racist if someone on OCuk is to assume a mass shooting is not Islamic terrorism?

Oh you are saying it is racist to assume the white guy isn't a muslim...

I would say that rather than racist, it would be a statistically accurate assumption given America's demographics.

I do always wonder how some terrorist incidents manage to be so... "unsuccessful" (for want of a better word) attacking people in crowded spaces. Then people like this manage to come along and kill 50+

Nah, you spray 200-300 rounds into a packed crowd of people with a high calibre weapon you are going to get serious number of fatalities even with zero training imho.

Well he was shooting from a good height down onto people so was like shooting fish in a barrel really =/

Surely terrorists could do this as well though? It is strange other than some severe incidents how few they manage to kill with attacks that have taken months of planning, I guess in the US it's far easier than Europe to gets your hands on a weapon like this and a tonne of ammunition.

if he was 'skilled' he'd likely not be blatting off so many rounds for such long bursts... sadly in such a tightly packed crowd it seems all he needed to do was vaguely aim in the direction of a mass of people and he'd hit some anyway :(

originally had planned to be there at moment but due to flight availability we had to put in back to next week

I've never understood why when tragedies occur people feel the need to link themselves to it in however tenuous a way. It adds nothing to the discussion. 40+ million visit Vegas every year, so at least half a million will be there this week without taking into account those who "might" have been.

"How terrible, I went to Paris once"
"Oh God, I walked through Borough market seven years ago"
"I fly twice a year, it could have been me"

Say what you want about the gun laws in the US, but surely there's no need for assault weapons in the general public? Can we not all agree on that?

shooting into a packed crowd, unprotected bodies so bullets likely going through and hitting a second person as they are all so close together
