Just heard on FB from a friend in Vegas, him and his family are safe.
He's a country and western fan, so I had all sorts of thoughts going through my head.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

The above video with the AR15 confirms to me that it wasn't a regular assault rifle that the guy was using. The rate and longevity of the sustained fire points to some kind of LMG. Scary stuff

not necessarily, he might've had a C-clip or similar. an LMG would probably have had a far different effect on a crowd of people.

I'm watching the news in Los Angeles, went to bed thinking "looks pretty bad..." just woke up and it's the worst in US history... Shooter had a full auto according to the Sheriff who's doing a press conference now,

But to deal with the shooter rather than the politics, having 8 guns in a hotel room means he's either simply very strong and paranoid or he deliberately took a large arsenal to a hotel room overlooking a music festival with the pre-meditated intention of using them.

So forget left vs right and consider country vs rock. Is this the start of a new war between fanatical music fans?

I can't link to it but at lunchtime I saw a video on twitter of someone recording the gunfire standing next to the base of the hotel or a building nearby. The rate of fire rose and fell as if the mechanism feeding the rounds was not consistent. It actually made me think of an old school crank handle gattling gun from a Western. Very odd and sickening sound.

I recommend stopping there if you're looking at videos. I watched one in the crowd at the recieving end and I really regret it. I've watched a lot of awful stuff but it's really distressing...

Stephen Paddock, 64, was named by police as the perpetrator of the shooting on Sunday night.

...Paddock is reported to have lived in a retirement village in Mesquite, Nevada, since June 2016 and is believed to have been born on April 9, 1953.

...At this stage, Paddock does not have any known ties to terrorist organisation and no motive has been put forward.

When asked by a reporter if it was an act of terrorism, Sheriff Lombardo said: "No, not at this point. We believe it was a local individual. He resides here locally."

Supposedly she has been named as Marilou Danley, she is married to a guy (not the named shooter) and the guy she is married to is a very hardcore anti-trump supporter, though I must stress that he is not the person named as the shooter. What she was doing with the named shooter in the hotel, I dont know.
