very true...but it would certainly have reduced the number of injuries and very probably deaths

if you cant stop people owning guns, authorities should at least try to mitigate the number of people that can be killed or injured in the response time of the police
 
I just don't understand Americans and their insistence on the right to bear arms. Their attitude is that guns don't kill people, it's people that kill people.

Well, guns are designed with one thing in mind, to kill. This will keep on happening until they make it impossible for your every day pleb to get his hands on a gun.

This is an appalling atrocity and one of the worst I can think of from recent times. And there are quite a few to choose from.

I'm very sad for the innocent people caught up in this horrendous act of pure evil :(
 
They had their chance after Sandy Hook, and they did nothing.

Effectively by doing nothing they were saying owning guns is more important than protecting innocent children (and all citizens) from nutters.
 
Dont forget that all the people injured by this will have huge medical bills, lets hope they have insurance that covers it all.

America.

Where you have the right to own a gun, but healthcare is a privilege.

What would make the most sense is banning bump stocks and the likes - I pretty much face palmed when I first found out about them - I'm surprised it took this long for something like this to be facilitated by them.
 
Looking at the timeline it seems he was dead within 10 minutes or opening fire?

So yeah, owning a semi auto or even bolt action would have massively reduced casualties (though it's still insane)

Its this element amongst all the others that I have the most issue with. They talk of their rights without any thought of the rights of the people who lay dead in the street, what about their rights to a life? Is that not more important that your right to own a gun* or your right to protect yourself against a hypothetical situation that will never occur?

The USA governments has no need to oppress its population, no need at all. They are already oppressed by fear and greed, the governments doesn't need a gun to rule them they have much more effective and covert ways to keep the people subdued.

* If (and its a big if) you really need to own a gun then they should have to store them at clubs etc.

For a ban on certain guns to be effective you need to do a lot more than pass a law. The views of the people need to change and they not only have to assist in removing these weapons from society by handing theirs in but also curb the demand for these weapons. If you make these guns illegal overnight without changing the gun culture and with so many of these guns in circulation already, you only provide a circumstances where people willing to trade in these weapons can thrive. It is little different from making a popular drug illegal in a country where it is socially acceptable and readily available through illegal means.

I am all for banning these silly modifications and heavy duty weapons but without the American people wanting the same, somehow magicking these restrictions through the house wont do much good.

Even with adjustments - for the type of incidents like this there has been an increase. I suspect the media and expansion of it with things like the internet, etc. is partly to blame in terms of people who are already predisposed towards a negative view of the world encountering more that reinforce their negative mindset but also the way the perpetrator(s) is exposed by the media tends to encourage those seriously contemplating it as often making a statement or being remembered are a big deal for them.
