British Jihadis Should Be Killed Says Rory Stewart

@Nasher and @gettothechopper

We don't kill enemy combatants who aren't fighting either. If they are still fighting then killing them is just combat. But I don't think that is what Rory Stewart is suggesting.
The point about them not giving up is a very fair one. Guantanamo Bay for all that it was derided was simply an acknowledgement that unlike fighting national armies the combatants would never surrender and needed to be contained until they were no longer dangerous. The US didn't kill every person like this they found.

I didn't realise some of the parents are on hunger strike in protest at the lack of assistance the government is giving to get their ISIS sons back from Kurdish capture.

As a dad I would probably do the same. But honestly what do they expect us to do? They failed as parents and now want us to sort out their mess. They can stay over there and reap what they sowed.

I think a big part of this is that we dont have an army on the ground clearing ISIS out, we have limited amounts of advisors and maybe SF, our main combat option is with airstirkes, they will be targeting enemy in contact with the forces we are supporting, or a convoy of ISIS trucks or something, arresting people in a (reasonably) controlled way (as per Herrick / Telic) isnt an option in these circumstances.

The US during the Iraq Surge for example, had massive amounts of force on hand and could perform raids where ever and whenever they liked, and in some cases the raid would end with an arrest, but in a great deal of those raids the US guys would have had no choice but to kill the person they were trying to arrest, and also lost lots of their own in the process - this is nothing like Syria

Are Daily Mail articles being dumbed-down more than usual these days?

This is an article for people who want to feel outraged more than anything else. There isn't any substance or content to it if you take away the frothing and moaning over nothing.

The Daily Mail is for people who want to feel outraged.

If you go to join ISIS then you stop being a British citizen in my eyes as you've pledged allegiance to another state/flag. At the very least they should be stripped of their passports and denied entry back to the UK

That's my view

Or alternatively when they try and use their passports to enter the country you arrest them, try them and then jail them. They're criminals, pure and simple.

The UK is after all a western democracy, not the Islamic State or North Korea.

This and only this, the world is already descending into right wing rhetoric of governments due to the failing of the ******** to acknowledge they can actually get things wrong oh and Tony Blair picking a fight due to American pressures.

This country's gone soft, it really has.

This shouldn't even be an issue.

Imagine what would have happened to Brits who joined the Nazi's and ended up running concentration camps, because that's what we're dealing with here, people who want to eradicate, a 21st century 'final solution', for 'non believers'.

They'd have been shot on the field of battle or if caught, hanged as mass murdering traitors, without a second thought.

..and that's what should happen to these pathetic basement dwelling mummy's boys trying to act all tough.

Regardless of whether you agree with it or not, the execution of captured criminals, is illegal

The execution of captured British criminals by the British legal system is currently illegal, yes. I'm saying I'd prefer it was legal.

We don't have the death penalty

I know. Rory Stewart knows that too. We're talking about personal preferences, not the current state of British law.

and I very much doubt there is the public or parliamentary appetite for it.

Sad but true. The only sentence with a 100% success rate against recidivism, and people don't want it.

Just remove their passports and leave them in Syria.

Can't guarantee they wouldn't find their way back somehow.

I'd be fine with killing them. But then I'd be okay with drone strikes on Tower Hamlets too. Make of that what you will.

That you are ok with killing muslims, who make up a large percentage of the population in tower hamlets??

If so then you are beyond words :/

I am sure our special forces take a particular interest in getting rid of traitors from their own
country who have decided to go and fight for Jihad.

What's wrong Chris, losing your touch? :p

Probably because our justice system is fallible and gets it wrong from time to time and I would rather not execute an innocent person.
